STEPHEN LYSOHIR July 29, 1920 - June 7, 2015 It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Stephen Lysohir, at the Beausejour Hospital. Stephen was preceded by his parents, William and Annie; and sisters, Lena and Olga. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margery; sons, Randy (Kelly) and Ryan; daughter Linda (Robert); grandchildren, Catherine and Joshua, and Austin Johnson. Stephen was born on a farm in Ladywood, Manitoba. Growing up, he first learned the craft of carpentry (from his father) which would become his passion. At the young age of 16, he built the altar at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Sandhills, which still graces the church to this day. Stephen's love for carpentry and woodworking led to a career as a house builder, cabinet maker, and finally a millwright. He spent nine years living and working in Detroit, Michigan constructing houses. Returning to Manitoba, he joined Eaton's department store, where he built display cabinets that were used in stores across the country. Later he joined Parks Canada, where he specialized in historical restoration with projects such as the Saint Andrews Rectory and the Dalnavert Museum, along with work in Batoche and North Battleford, SK. Stephen was an immaculate craftsman who took great pride in his work and never settled for "good enough". Stephen was a man who could never sit still. He was the happiest when in his workshop or tending to his gardens and he never ran out of work to keep himself busy. Despite a work ethic that kept him busy, he always had time for what was most important to him, his family. He was a devoted husband and father who always put his family before himself. Dad was a devoted Grandpa to Catherine and Joshua. He loved visits from them and was so happy to be a grandfather. His face always lit up when he was with them. He lived a long and wonderful life of 94 years. Stephen was a gentle, giving, caring individual who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the staff at the Beausejour Hospital for the compassionate care provided during Dad's final days, allowing him to pass with comfort, peace and dignity. With respect to Stephen's wishes, a cremation has taken place. The family would like to invite family and friends to join them in a celebration of Stephen's life at the home of Randy and Kelly at 107 Westwater Dr., Winnipeg on Friday, June 12, 2015 between 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
