Born: Apr 13, 1924
Date of Passing: Jun 07, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDENISE BASKERVILLE It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our aunt, Denise Baskerville (nee Papegnies) on June 7, 2015, at the age of 91, at her home in Winnipeg. She was born April 13, 1924 in Everbeek, Belgium. Denise grew up on the family farm in Swan Lake, giving her a lasting appreciation of nature. She moved to the city in 1944 and worked in various venues including sewing factories, Canada Packers, and J. B. Carters. In 1969, she married Jim Baskerville and together they started their own business, Baskerville Automatic Transmissions. Upon retirement, they enjoyed many years of travelling. Denise loved going dancing, entertaining and playing cards with friends. She was a member of a number of clubs including the Belgian Club. Denise always enjoyed baking and cooking and was a talented seamstress. She also enjoyed gardening; her green thumb evident by the abundance of houseplants she always carefully tended. Left to mourn are her nieces, Belinda and Gail Kotschorek, and great-niece Breanne Howarth, several cousins, nieces, nephews and relatives in Manitoba and Belgium, as well as many friends. She was predeceased by her daughter Wanda Frankfurt (1983), husband Jim (1993), sister Simone (Kotschorek), father Henri (1977), mother Maria (Haegeman) (1994), and brother Laurent (1997). In honour of her wishes, cremation has taken place, and no formal funeral service will take place. Heartfelt thanks to friends, and neighbours for their kindness and to the Homecare Ladies for their compassionate care. If friends and family wish to honour Denise, a donation can be made to a charity of one's choice. "To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven, a time to be born and a time to die, a time to weep and a time to laugh."

I'm so sorry to learn of the passing of this wonderful woman. She was married to my Uncle Alex Frankfurt, Wanda's father, before she met Jim. I will always cherish the fond memories I have, some from our days at the farm and others from the time I spent with her and Wanda on Wardlaw in Winnipeg. I spent one summer taking care of Wanda while Aunty Denise worked at JB Carters. I recall helping put the dots on the frost shields, also putting Wanda on a small rug and dragging her around the floor to polish it! Good times for sure. God Bless Aunty Denise! - Posted by: Barb Krause (Niece) on: Jun 18, 2015

I would like to send my sympathies to Belinda, Gail, and Breanne. It is a sad day to say good-bye to your mom and grandma! I'm so glad we did get together for our Belgium Family Reunions. It was a wonderful time for us to get to know a little more about one another. Just remember that when you close your eyes, you can see her smile and know how much she loved you. Take care and God Bless! Love: Lisa, Kylie, Keenan, Ayla and Dax - Posted by: Lisa Papegnies Salazar (Niece) on: Jun 14, 2015

It isn't a long time that I have known Denise but in these few last years she has become a friend. Every few days we would talk or arrange a visit. Often there was some small thing she needed and it felt good to help her out. I think Denise enjoyed time with my dog more then with me! She would find some little treat to offer her and my dog would become her best friend. I wish I had played cribbage with Denise on one of those nights she called to say hello and could I come by. These are beautiful pictures of her. To the family of Denise, I am sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Kim segal (Friend / neighbor) on: Jun 14, 2015
