GORDON TRIDER On Tuesday, June 9, 2015, Gord passed away peacefully at Deer Lodge Center, at the age of 93 years, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Left to mourn Gord's passing are his companion, Verna Walker of 40 years; son Ken (Nadia); grandchildren, Devon and Giselle of Toronto; daughter, Elizabeth; nephew, Bob Scott (Christine) of Calgary; Verna's extended family, Gwenda, Perry and Patti; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and numerous friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Irene; eldest son, Frank; brother, Harold (Margaret) and sisters, June and Marvel. Gord worked at the University of Manitoba for 38 years after serving in the Canadian Air Force in WWII. Verna and Gord were snowbirds for 21 winters, mainly in Florida, enjoying the Gulf and numerous golf courses. Gord loved golfing and was a member of Southwood Golf Course for 30 years. An unfortunate head injury caused him to take up residence at Deer Lodge Centre. Our sincere appreciation to all the wonderful, caring staff at Tower 5. In compliance with Gord's wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. A Celebration of Gord's Life will be held by family at a later date. "He was a prince of a guy and will be truly missed by family and all who knew him".

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Mr. Trider (Gord), In 1979 interviewed me for a job in Mail Services in which he was the supervisor at that time. I had only recently moved to Canada and at 17, this was my first job. One of the many questions he asked was "where do you see yourself in 5 years", my answer to this was (in your seat) which gave him a laugh. He was always pleasant to everyone and this really stood out for me. I was really sad to hear of his passing. When he retired i had always wanted to tell him 'Thank You' for hiring me and letting him know how grateful i was because of him. - Posted by: john baillie (employee) on: Apr 28, 2023

  • It is with great sadness that I heard the news of Gord's passing. If there ever was a person that epitomized graciousness, good humor and the true essence of a man, that was Gord Trider. A true gentlemen with a kind heart and a good story to tell. He will be so missed and I shall always carry fond memories of this gem of a man. My condolences to all his family and friends. Sincerely, Sharon - Posted by: Sharon Walker (Friend) on: Jun 23, 2015

  • Trider as he was known by his friends was a great human being. Great sense of humour and always compassionate. Will be dearly missed. We worked together at U of M for over 35 years. - Posted by: Terry Falconer (old friend and colleague) on: Jun 16, 2015

  • Gordon was a wonderful man. "True Gentleman" comes to mind to describe him. He was my first Manager at the University and really helped me transition from student to full time employee. He had a great sense of humour and years later when I would bump into him we would have a little chat and good laugh. - Posted by: Tim Cowan (Co-worker) on: Jun 13, 2015
