My mother Patricia Cathcart McNicholl, your 1st cousin, stayed very much in touch with you and visited when she could. You, Elsie and Brendan came out to visit to Nanaimo in 1992. I knew of your passing back in 2015, as my mother, one of the keepers of the family history and family tree, told me. Your cousin Dianne Cathcart Ingle and I speak of you often, in memory. Now my mother is very old and her memory is poor and I have inherited the family tree and transposed it all to Ancestry. There we continue to keep your memory alive and document your family line. As family relations, always in our minds, always in our hearts. May you be free and at peace. Love you cousin. Bern McNicholl. If you are looking for our family tree I have most of our Cathcart lines. bern.mcnicholl@gmail.com - Posted by: Bern McNicholl (1st cousin 1x removed) on: Oct 21, 2022

We met Chris in the late 1960’s when he and Bill served with the Fort Garry Horse Regiment (Reserves) at McGregor Armoury in Winnipeg. And oh the adventures they had especially as members of the honour guard, spending summers at Lower Fort Garry. They dressed in period uniforms, fired the cannons across the Red River and in 1970 were photographed a million times as the entire Royal Family visited the fort, along with every other Canadian Dignitary in celebration of Manitoba’s Centennial. Bill went on to join the regular forces leaving Winnipeg and moving many times so a lot of friend connections in Winnipeg were lost. But when we were in Winnipeg in 1999 and 2005 for the funerals of my parents, Chris came to both funerals to support our loss and to honor their memories in our lives and his. It was such a thoughtful and respectful gesture, appreciated by all. So Chris, how can we not honor you now... Peace be with you dear friend as you travel home! We have visions of you in Red Serge with the cannon’s firing!! With thanks Bill and Cathy Hewson (nee Grierson) - Posted by: Bill and Cathy Hewson (Friend) on: Jul 06, 2015

Such a shock to learn of this news... My sincere condolences to Chris' family and friends. Chris and I dated in our teens... such a long, long time ago. He was my first love. We didn't stay in touch as we both moved on with our respective lives, marrying and having families. However, my family and I all felt so grateful to him when in 1999 he attended my dad's funeral and then in 2005, he attended my mother's. It was so kind of him to come and I was so glad to see him there. Rest in peace old friend... xo - Posted by: Bev Jarvis (friend) on: Jul 05, 2015

I knew Chris my entire life. He was a best friend to my parents and family, a loving individual with a personality as vibrant as his language was colourful. I remember one event in particular when my family had just moved to a new city. He, his wife at the time, and another couple who were close friends with my parents, surprised us all when they rode up on motorcycles to our front door. I remember being the coolest kid around, when Chris gave me a lift to school that day, and I rolled up past all the kids getting off the bus, astride his Honda Shadow. Chris, you will forever live on in our hearts and memories, and you will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Josh (Friend) on: Jun 21, 2015
