MAURICE MARK FLYNN With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandad, and great-grandad, Mark Flynn on July 13, 2015 at Oakview Place. Mark was born on the family farm at McAuley, Manitoba on January 11, 1930. He moved to Winnipeg as a youth and resided in St. James for the rest of his life. He married the love of his life, Sandra Cuthill on August 4, 1950 and with her raised three sons, Gerry, Pat and Mike. Mark was a hard working, self-made businessman. He worked at Wilson's Stationary before building a career with Florists Supply as part owner and continued working there until his retirement in 1988. Mark was an accomplished all round athlete who excelled at baseball, hockey and lacrosse. In 1998 he was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame as a member of the Fort Whyte Baseball Club. Later in 2002, he was inducted as an individual player. Mark passed his love of sports on to his sons and grandchildren, spending countless hours coaching baseball and supporting them in all of their activities. He was always there to lend his wisdom, support, love and encouragement and was incredibly proud of all their achievements. He owned and raced Standardbred horses and made many friends on the harness racing circuit. Mark was a kind, generous man. He had a quick wit and an engaging sense of humour. Sadly, during the last several years of his life, he suffered from Alzheimer's disease, which ultimately stole his ability to recognize and communicate with family and friends. Those who knew him will always remember him as a remarkable person. Mark was predeceased by his wife, Sandra, his parents, Maurice and Edith Flynn, and his sisters Kathleen, Maurise and Lorna. Left to mourn his passing are sons: Gerry, Pat (Susan), and Mike (Kim); grandchildren Amanda (Stephen Bailey), Heather (Nick Charlton), Bryan (Maegan Rutherford), Lauren (Ramzi Helewa), Jordan, Eric (Kristina), Megan, Lexie, and Riley; great-grandchildren Tatum and Deacon Bailey, Clara Flynn, and Noura Helewa, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family is grateful for the wonderful care provided by the staff at Oakview Place. At Mark's request there will not be a formal funeral service. A private celebration of Mark's life has been planned for immediate family members. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 4G2 or to a charity of your choice.
