PATRICIA EVELYN HAIG (STEEVES) (née GREGG) October 1934 - July 12, 2015 Our beloved mother did not awaken from her sleep. She was predeceased by her second husband Graeme Haig in 1993. She is survived by her daughter Susan (Len) Hong; son Rand (Jackie) Steeves; son Rod (Maria) Steeves; grandchildren Gordon Hong, Jeff Hong; Jacqueline (Frankie) DaSilva; Michelle Steeves; and great-grandson Raphael DaSilva. She is also survived by her brother Peter (Sharon) Gregg; five nieces, many relatives across Canada, and many very dear friends. Born in Rochfort Bridge, AB to Hilda and James Gregg, Mom changed schools often as her dad, employed by the C.N.R., moved the young family numerous times between Alberta, Regina and Winnipeg. She proudly recalled the log cabin her father built for them in Alberta. Mom loved to sing and from an early age had the wonderful ability to remember melody and lyrics to any song she heard. Reading, knitting, sewing, and stained glass work, painting and decorating were pastimes she loved. She enjoyed the companionship of dogs Octavius and Paddy who led her on many a merry chase and countless walks, meeting her wonderful neighbours in the process. She was a devoted, loving mother, fiercely protective. Babies were her delight. An enthusiastic traveller, Mom visited many parts of the world. From meeting a cheetah in the wilds of Africa to a simple trip to an Ontario orchard where you could pick your own fruit, Mom drew the greatest delight. Major surgeries and a stroke over the past two years saw her move from her home on the Red to the St. Boniface Hospital to Seine River Retirement Residence to the Victoria Hospital and finally to River Park Gardens. All of these facilities offered her excellent, compassionate care. Her family feels profoundly thankful to the staff of each of those care centres, in particular River Park Gardens where she required extra attention. She felt secure there and part of a supportive community. Coupled with the unflagging care, attention and hilarity brought to her by her son Rand and daughter-in-law Jackie, Mom flourished and regained a lot of movement. They visited her every day and bore proud witness to the spirit, grace and courage with which Mom faced acute health and mobility issues. Immediate family will gather in August for a private interment. May your continued support of worthy charities be a testament to those you love.
