BARBARA ANN RHIND-HARRISON
Date of Passing: Jul 20, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBARBARA ANN RHIND-HARRISON Barbara Ann Rhind - Harrison entered eternal life peacefully on July 20, 2015 at the Portage District General Hospital. Barbara ("please don't call me Barb") would have been 76 years old on August 13, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mollie and Charlie Rhind and leaves to remember her, with love and affection, her husband Mark, her sister Norma Effler (Marshall), brother Bob (Marilyn) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Barbara considered her professional role as an educator and counsellor to be "my life's work and interest". She created many fond memories for her students and colleagues - "my schools were so important to me". Friends and family variously described her as "funny, lovely and sweet"; "dedicated to her profession" and "so dedicated to Mark". She was also a strong-willed person who would challenge at all levels if she felt a situation or circumstance was being inappropriately handled. She expected all professionals' to be just that in their actions and behaviours. She loved all of the following: fashionable clothing and jewelry, yoga and fitness, Clear Lake and shopping with her sister, Irish blessings, small indulgences, her dogs Marcus 1 and 2, good music, cool cars, personal privacy, her home grown flowers, her stylish home, and especially "immediate family". At Barbara's behest a small family-only gathering was held at Westbourne Cemetery on July 22nd and internment took place next to her mother and father. She specifically requested that the gathering should include music, a moment of silence, and an Irish Blessing (May the road rise up to meet you ..........And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand). We know that Barbara would hope that friends would do an unsolicited and unexpected act of kindness for a charity or person of their choosing. The family is so thankful for the fine and caring Doctors, Nurses and staff at Portage District General Hospital. Special thanks to Sunset Palliative Care and Aldene Moroz.

Hello, my uncle Mark -my mom's only brother - has now passed. Growing up he was a larger than life guy with $1 million smile. When I first met Barbara probably around the mid 70s, I thought wow! What a perfect pairing of two people coming together. I remember coming home from Ontario and visiting them at their apartment in Winnipeg in the late 1970s. Had lunch with them and it was so much fun! I could tell how happy my uncle was and Barbara was amazing! She asked questions but never in a prying manner. She just cared about people and was super nice. To this day her presence for me stands out and of course her smile. Met her a few more times at various family weddings. She never changed and they always looked so good together. My mom liked her a lot. And my father. Great memories!)) - Posted by: Charlie Gregoire (My uncle Mark‘s new wife)) on: May 04, 2021

We were so sad to hear about Barb. She was a close family friend who lived with us when I was in high school - it was great to spend that time with her. We have fond memories of Barb as children growing up at Clear Lake and later in life. Our thoughts are with Mark, Norma and Bob. - Ken & Sharon Smyth - Posted by: Ken & Sharon Smyth (Friends ) on: Aug 11, 2015

Uncle Mark, words cannot express how sorry I am for your tremendous loss...My thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time...Barbara was a beautiful and kind person who I knew was your soulmate...I know you will miss her very much as will I, and even now that she is gone, your life would never be the same...It was clearly a blessing that Our Heavenly Father made your love for each other strong and true, a special bond that would never be broken...I always enjoyed Barbara's company, like we were very close friends...She honestly had that way about her and you were lucky to have met such a lovely woman...And now, Barbara awaits you at Heaven's gate, as if you went together and where, one day soon, she will call you Home...Whispers From Heaven: When I left this world without you, I know it made you blue. Your tears fell so freely, I saw this to be true. While you were weeping, days after I passed away, while all was silent within me, I saw you kneel to pray. From this wonderful place called Heaven, where all my pain is gone, I send a gentle breeze to whisper, "My beloved one, please go on." The peace that I have found here, goes far beyond compare; No rain, no clouds, no suffering---just LOVE from everywhere. You need not be troubled, just stay close to God in prayer. Mine and HIS love surround you, it will always be there. Author ~ Unknown...In her memory, I pledge to honour her wishes and follow her example...I wish to extend my utmost deepest and heartfelt sympathies to you, Uncle Mark, and to Barbara's family and extended family...May Barbara have eternal rest, and that, all who knew her, have peace and comfort in knowing that she is now in a better place. With Love Always from your niece, Monique xoxox - Posted by: Monique Ayotte (niece ) on: Aug 11, 2015

Barbara was a big part of my childhood and my brothers. Barbara's Mom and Dad were great friends of our parents and we spent many happy times together, especially when it rained at Clear Lake and we were all shipped off to spend some time at the museum. Barbara was also a bridesmaid at my wedding and lived with my parents when she was carrying on with her schooling Winnipeg. We all loved her alot and she was such a joy to be around. My deepest sympathies to Norma, Bob and all her family. - Posted by: Pat (Smyth) Douglas (Close friend of our family) on: Aug 09, 2015

We are devastated to hear of Barbara's passing. We always considered Uncle Mark such a lucky guy to find such a wonderful, vivacious partner later in life. She was lovely, kind, caring, stylish, smart, and so much fun to be around. Our condolences to her family. She will be missed. - Posted by: Robert Gregoire/Marilyn E. Miss Rhind was my guidance counselor in high school and she helped me through some very tough times, she instilled in me to be kind and a lady. I saw her some years after High School and she remembered me, we would occasionally run into each other at The Bay Downtown at noon and she always had a huge smile and a pleasant compliment for me. She impacted my life in more ways than she ever new. My Deepest Sympathy to all of her family. With God Speed Rest in peace. - Posted by: Susan Craig (Clements) (former student) on: Aug 08, 2015

It is so sad to hear of Mrs. Rhind-Harrison's passing. She was my guidance counselor at Sisler High School from 1973 - 1979, and was instrumental in my young life decisions; always positive and extremely helpful. I always admired her fashion sense, she always looked polished and professional. She was always friendly and sincere with her students even though teaching at Sisler could be trying at times. A really great lady whom I remember with adoration. - Posted by: Jamie-Lynn Henkel (Student ) on: Aug 08, 2015
