JAMES TENNANT RUSSELL On August 25, 2015 after a long battle with cancer, Jim passed away at Deer Lodge Centre. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Janet Russell; his siblings George and Margaret; brother-in-law Elgy; and his life partner Doris Wells. Left to mourn his passing are his step-children Jack and his wife Lori Wells, Jim and his wife Sylvia Wells, and Debbie and her husband Art Chase; his grandchildren Carly, Connor, Tyler, Owen (Loretta), Trevor (Dana), Tanya (Toby), Carrie, Megan (Ryan), and Heath; his great-grandchildren Dustin, Dillon, Jeremy, Randi, Sydney, Thomas, Emma, Sophie, and Arden. Also mourning Jim's passing are his niece Jan Merrick, and his nephew Larry (Charlene) Merrick. Jim was born July 11, 1925 and resided in Winnipeg. At the age of 16, like many of his friends, Jim lied about his age and joined the army. He was soon deployed overseas where he was wounded while in France. Like many veterans, Jim didn't talk too much about the war, but enjoyed telling stories of his many adventures in Scotland while on furlough. After the war Jim returned to Winnipeg where he held several jobs before starting work for Canada Post, retiring in 1985. Jim was an avid golfer and curler and loved sports of all kinds. He took great pleasure in having his nephew, Larry, stop in to watch a ball game with him. Jim became part of the Wells family in 1980 when he and Doris got together. He loved being included in family occasions and was always first in line for dinner. He was thrilled when his latest great-granddaughter Arden was born last summer. Jim had his 90th birthday in July and really rallied for that celebration. We will miss you Jim. The family would like to thank the staff at Deer Lodge T5 for their caring and compassion. Their advocacy on Jim's behalf was greatly appreciated. As well, thanks to the staff at Thorvaldson's Care Centre for the care they provided Jim. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at Thomson Funeral Home with Jim's final resting place being at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
