ABILIO FERNADES LOPES It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Abilio, after a short illness, on August 24, 2015 in Edmonton at the age of 78. He was born in Ribeira de Pena, Portugal. After immigrating to Canada with his young family, Winnipeg became home for many years before moving to Edmonton. He will be deeply missed by family and friends, as he was the one and only "Uncle Bill" who would sing, dance, play the harmonica and accordion to entertain us. Who will ever forget the Christmas where, at a friend's party, he walked out of the room and came back wearing a red sweater, white beard made out of paper, and stuffed pillow case over his shoulder and continued the evening as Santa - just because! Beijinhos com muitas saudades tio Abilio. Mass in his memory will be celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Parish, 141 Austin Street on Tuesday, September 1 at 7:00 p.m.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I remember when we use to work together at Home Depot and go for a cup of coffee after work at Tim Hortons. You drove that fancy Mercedes and sometimes you use to tell me, "Johnny don’t worry about work, sit down and enjoy café." - Posted by: Juan Alas (Amigo) on: Jan 15, 2019

  • Although I've always dreamt of meeting you, I never knew how to make contact. It is with great sadness that in my search for you, I come across your obituary. I've heard wonderful stories about you and wish we could have met. I wish my parents, John Lopes and Patricia Slobodzian, stayed in touch so that I would have had the pleasure of meeting him. You will always have my love and prayers, You're loving granddaughter, Alexandria Lopes - Posted by: Alexandria Lopes (Granddaughter) on: Nov 07, 2016

  • I've known Bill since I met my husband in 1997. He was there in the hospital shortly after the birth of my two sons and has been like a grandfather to them all these years. We have fond memories of Abilio dressing as Santa Claus to deliver their Christmas presents when they were little, playing the accordion in my garden at my youngest's christening. Bill stayed in our house for 2-4 months each summer since we moved to BC. He loved his double-double coffee and enjoyed tending to the garden. He is the only person I've known who could fit all his possessions into the trunk of his precious diesel Mercedes Benz. He was loved dearly and is missed deeply. Goodbye Bill! You will always be in our hearts. Love, Brigitte, Martin, Dominik & Evan Wieronski - Posted by: Brigitte Wieronski (Close friend ) on: Sep 03, 2015
