Date of Passing: Aug 24, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMAGDALENA MARIA HELFRICH It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of a beloved mother and grandmother, Magdalena Maria Helfrich at Concordia Hospital on Monday, August 24, 2015. Magda leaves behind to mourn her loving son Peter, daughter Monica, loving grandson Adam, granddaughter Betty Jean and great- granddaughter Phoenix. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Josef (Sepp). Madga was born July 23, 1928 in Northern Germany. She was the youngest of 10 children. She met her husband Josef after the war on a small farm working as a farm hand when Josef swept her off her feet. They married a short time after in Shipston on Shore in Warwick England just south of Stratford on Avon. Together they had 2 children Monica and Peter. They immigrated into Canada in 1959 and started a new life raising a family in Canada. Magda had a passion for gardening and pets, often treating her pets like royalty and spending days on end tending to her beautiful yard and flowers. Magda was very independent and feisty often wanting to do things herself and using public transit until in recent years she started to slow down often pushing herself to complete tasks even though she was suggested to slow down and take her time. Magda leaves behind family and many beloved friends who fondly remember her. Magda's wish to be cremated has taken place and will join her husband (Josef) with the ashes to be spread at Wallace Lake together. Her wishes will be granted as directed. A memorial tribute will be held at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31, where at that time anyone wishing to come forward and share stories of their memories will be greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made by donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg MB, R3K 0K6 (Ph. 204-949-2000). Been a friend of Pete's since childhood... back in CB days. Both Pete's parents treated me like family. They loved pets, they loved the outdoors and they loved getting away from the city.. every weekend and holiday they went to Wallace Lake. And no wonder, I went with them one weekend and it's one of the most beautiful serene places i've seen. If it wasn't for mosquitoes it would be heaven on earth. When you consider that's where they wanted to be although it's sad to see them go you know they'll never be far from the place they loved most; Wallace Lake. One of the funniest things I ever heard her say, trying to contact Pete on the CB radio during a heavy sunspot cycle. "Peta', zee shkip is viping you out!" Deepest sympathy on the passing of Magda. I had the pleasure of bowling with her at Windsor Lanes and had coffee with her at her house. She was a lovely lady and will be dearly missed. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Josie Landry (Friend) on: Aug 30, 2015
