CHARLES WILFRED GRANDPRE Charlie, as he was so fondly remembered by his friends and co-workers, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the Health Sciences Centre. Born in Waterhen, Manitoba on July 24, 1933 to his parents, Charles and Josephine Grandpre, who were trappers in the area, along with seven other siblings including a twin sister Josephine and sisters, Joyce and Angeline; brothers, Phillip, Clifford, Victor and Joe. The family eventually moved to Dauphin, Manitoba, where Charlie briefly attended school before they all moved to Winnipeg and settled in the Logan Avenue area downtown. Working at a very young age as a pin boy and janitor at many of the Bowling Lanes in Winnipeg for the next 30 years, until he was eventually replaced by automation, he then joined MacDon Industries Ltd. as a janitor in 1973 for the next 23 years, retiring in 1996. Charlie remained a steadfast bachelor all his life and a very avid bowler and also, as some might say, as a pool shark. He knew when to lose and then to clean the table leaving his opponents with nothing more than to put their money on the table. Charlie, we all miss your humour and jokes and you were truly a survivor. Cremation has taken place and a small memorial was held at his place of residence at the Lions Place seniors' complex for residents, staff and family.
