Born: Sep 22, 1940
Date of Passing: Sep 14, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCARL JOSEPH GAY It is with deep sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of Carl, in the early morning hours of September 14, 2015. Carl will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by the love of his life, best friend and wife of 51 years, Heidi; his children, Deborah (Cees) and Andrew (Diana); and his grandchildren, Rylen, Noah, Lauren and Michael. Also left to mourn are his two sisters, Susan (Mike) and Lori (Rob), many nieces, nephews and well- loved friends. Carl was born in Winnipeg on September 22, 1940. He grew up here, as well as spending countless happy hours at Grand Beach in the summers of his youth. Carl and Heidi met in 1963 and married less than a year later in 1964. They raised a loving and happy family, the proudest achievement of his life. Carl retired early from Canada Post in 2000, so that he could take more time to enjoy the things that really mattered to him. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and passing his stories on to them. He enjoyed camping and was always happy to come out and visit with his kids and grandkids at Birds Hill Park, where he enthusiastically manned the campfire. He got to travel to many places with Heidi, his favourites being Hawaii and one last train trip to the Canadian Rockies. His trains were his favourite hobby and after retirement, he got the chance to build his dream layout in the basement, spending 15 happy years running it. Carl loved singing and after a brief hiatus of 34 years from the stage, he spent nine years as part of the chorus of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society's productions. All his life, Carl gave back to the community he was a part of. He was a camp counsellor for many years in his youth, a cub Akela for a decade, taught confirmation classes and volunteered at the train museum and the children's museum. Carl enjoyed his life and we will cherish all the good times we shared with him. A celebration of Carl's life has taken place with family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to your favourite charity. We entrust you to our Lord and will carry you with us, until we meet again.

Carl was instrumental in leading me to Christ. He told me God loved me just the way I was. He even took me to church one time. When I moved to BC he and his son stopped to visit during train expo. I will always remember Carl with fondness and hope to see him again one day. - Posted by: Shelly Paquette (Coworker at post office.) on: Jan 15, 2022

Carl's son and daughter-in-law Andrew and Diana, and sister Susan helped me during one of the most difficult stages in my life as respite workers, and Special Education teacher. I am most thankful for that moment. May Carl rest in peace eternally. - Posted by: Philip Bialk (Friend of Andrew and Diana) on: Dec 17, 2015

Spent many years working with Carl. His stories and singing kept us entertained during dull shifts at a dull job. Will be missed. - Posted by: doug lang (co-worker) on: Oct 05, 2015
