ALEXANDER CLARK GRIERSON March 24, 1946 - September 28, 2015 The family of Clark Grierson are deeply saddened to announce his passing on Monday, September 28, 2015, at the age of 69. Born in Winnipeg, Clark was the first of four children born to Alexander Henderson Grierson and Marie Christine Grierson (nee Clark.) Clark's early years were spent in multiple cities, including Winnipeg and Flin Flon MB and Prince Albert and Yorkton, SK. The family eventually returned to Winnipeg in 1964. As a young boy, Clark had some special trips with his maternal grandparents where he learned all about geology and mining and railroads, sharing Gramps' interest in the trains. Another passion for Clark was stamp collecting we think our mom introduced him to that hobby. For him, it became a passion that he nurtured for the rest of his life. He collected and competed for many years and eventually became a National Accredited Judge for the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada. He was especially pleased to have achieved that status and enjoyed a number of years travelling to philatelic competitions across Canada when his health permitted. As an adult, he moved to Thompson, MB to work for INCO. He became involved with the Jaycees and Junior Achievement to mention a few of the ways in which he contributed back to his new community. He was appointed to the Junior Chamber International Senate. His desire to become involved with various volunteer groups set the stage for a lifetime of community involvement and voluntary work via which he made many wonderful connections and lifelong friends. His involvement with the Ottawa-Carleton's Youth Services Board resulted in him receiving the Province of Ontario Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award in 1991. Volunteering in all its various forms wherever he lived became a passion for him. While in Ottawa, he held many senior management administrative roles with the Federal Government. He also supported several political campaigns and after many years in the city, started his own consulting firm. One of his most valued positions, in Ottawa, was as the Executive Director of the Sparks Street Mall. During that period he oversaw a significant mall expansion which looked great on his already expansive resume. He loved the challenge of that position and spoke of it often in later years. In 1988 Clark was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. He stayed in Ottawa another 10 years but eventually his declining health caused him to re-evaluate life and return to Winnipeg to be closer to family. Clark was predeceased by his parents, Alexander Grierson, in 1999 and Marie Christine Grierson in 2005. He is survived by sisters: Catherine (Bill) Hewson of Surrey, BC, Sheila (Daryl) Reid of Winnipeg, and Bev (Trevor) Jarvis of Nanaimo, BC. Stepsisters: Gloria Glawson, Tracy (Danny) Noble, 12 nieces and nephews and six great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his longtime girlfriend, Vivian Korchinski. Theirs was a precious love and friendship they each treasured for 15 years. We give heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at the Tache Centre for 10 years of loving care and support for Clark while he lived there. Despite multiple and numerous health challenges, we always knew they were devoted to his care. As well, we thank the professional medical teams at the St. Boniface Hospital ICU and 6E Medical wards for their compassionate care this past week when his medical complications overcame him. The memorial service will be held at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home with interment to follow, 4000 Portage Avenue (West) on Monday October 5 at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Carol Fletcher and Rev. Jeff Cook officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Manitoba, 100- 1465 Buffalo Place Winnipeg, MB, R3T 1L8, or Actionmarguerite (Saint-Boniface) Inc.
