She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Al Stimpson; sister, Lou McCombe and brother, Jack Bains. Janet was born in Cromer, Manitoba on March 3, 1924. She and her family moved to Winnipeg in 1936, settling in St. James on Rutland Street. After high school graduation, Janet attended Success Business College and found employment in a secretarial position at Ryan Agencies and at the Grain Exchange, where she met her future husband Alfred Edward Stimpson. In 1948 Janet and Al were married and settled in St. James where they enjoyed welcoming family and friends to their home, hosting many Sunday dinners and family gatherings. Summers were often spent at Victoria Beach, memories that Janet always treasured. Both Janet and Al were active members of St. Bede's Anglican Church, for many years, where they volunteered in many capacities, including her position as head of the Ladies Auxiliary. Janet was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed playing piano and collecting antique furniture. She was an avid reader, with an interest in Canadian and British history. She and her sister Elsie volunteered for over 25 years at Deer Lodge Centre, coordinating the operation of Second Debut, a second-hand clothing shop and working in the Centre's gift shop. In 2010, Janet received a volunteer award for her many years of devoted service to Deer Lodge Centre. Until her last days, she remained very independent and in touch with current issues and events.
