Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Auntie Thérèse was a cheerful and fun-loving lady. From Dufrost, where I grew up, she was as part of the fabric of small town life set in rural Manitoba as the wheat fields and snow cover that was our daily landscape. She enjoyed community life and shared in its activities from church (St. Malo Catholic), school, curling and public activities. Her smile was infectious. She was quick-witted and she was not shy at doing what most rural women did then – sew, garden, gossip, can all manors of fruit and vegetables and cook amazing pies or cakes. Together with Uncle Gerard, she raised a brood of our younger cousins. If this was not enough, other demands she had included Catholic women’s committees, the town’s Postmistress and co-managed the town’s only grocery store that she and Uncle managed. Despite these demands, she made everyone around her happy. Whether it was a funny joke, her positive attitude, or her big smile, she was a delight to be around. What I remember is how the town folk would congregate in the store after mail was done and it was here news was shared. My parents were part of this vibrant rural circle of French Canadians and Ukrainian neighbours. Life in small town Dufrost was never boring and the seasons helped bring enough variety in daily life to keep us kids busy and for the most part out of mischief. We did not visit per se as living in a Dufrost was a lifetime of visiting. I lost touch with her then but am sure she continued her sunny ways and positive attitude. My parents would give me her news and from this know Auntie enjoyed a good and busy life following retirement. She was an incredible sister, grandmother, mother, wife and aunt. She will be missed by a lot of people. I wish all peace. - Posted by: Marcelle Marion (Niece) on: Dec 05, 2015

  • To Father Maurice, grandchildren and immediate family members. Sorry to hear about the death of your Mother. I am sure that she will see you all again up in heaven. May she rest in peace and be surrounded in the loving arms of Jesus. My prayers go out to each and everyone of you. May God give you his Peace and Love at this time and always. - Posted by: Linda Goral (Friend of Father Maurice) on: Dec 05, 2015
