HELEN DANLOE (nee LESIUK) November 10, 1914 - January 20, 2016 It's not easy to sum up a life that glowed for 101 years but here's a snapshot. Helen was born in Arborg and moved to Winnipeg with her family at a young age, settling in Point Douglas. She married Stephen Danloe in 1936 and they spent 44 years together before Helen was widowed in 1980. In 1942 they were blessed with their only child, daughter, Beverley. In 1982 at the Elmwood Senior Centre, she was fortunate to meet special friend Werner, who shared her love of travel, bowling and playing cards. She worked as a house cleaner in her teens and later at Manitoba Cold Storage and Eaton's warehouse. A spotless home was very important to her and everything had it's place. Fashion, exercise and appearance were also very important to Helen, who once knitted herself a full coat and dress and stayed on top of the latest fashions by taking the bus to the mall well into her 80's. She also made time every day to ride her stationary bike or exercise to TV's Charlene Prickett. A glass of water was always nearby and a daily Vaseline regimen left her skin as soft as velvet. She took pride in herself and it showed. Helen had all her own teeth, including a baby tooth and never looked her age, even at 101. She lived long, laughed a lot, had spunk, was feisty and peacefully died in her sleep, deserving of a long rest. She was predeceased by all her siblings, (Addie, Stella, Frances, Michael, John, Tony). She will be deeply missed by her daughter Bev Bernhardt (Clifford); granddaughter Sandy Motkaluk (Richard); grandson Darren Bernhardt (Jenn Still), and great-grandchildren, Steven, Riley, Maryssa and Myranda Motkaluk, Abby and Ben Bernhardt; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff on the second floor of Concordia Place Personal Care Home for their caring, compassion and patience for the past eight years. A private interment will be held at a later date.
