ANNE CASTLING (KOSCIELNY) October 1928 - December 2015 Like so many people in society, it is with sadness that Anne passed away in her home, alone and lonely. The loss of Anne is deeply felt by the few caring people in her life. Anne is survived by a brother Joe, several nieces and nephews, many cousins and Aunt Anne (Koscielny) Kuyp of Neepawa. Anne was born on a farm in Elphinstone to the late Nick and Mary Koscielny. With circumstances beyond her control Anne left home at the age of four and moved to live with her paternal grandparents, Joseph and Mary Koscielny in Elphinstone. At the age of 14 she moved to Minnedosa and worked at the Tremont Hotel till she moved to Winnipeg. She kept in touch with them for several years. Because of rejection from most of her family and relatives she distanced herself to the point where she changed her name from Koscielny to Castling. Anne became a very independent and private person. After several jobs Anne was hired by Canada Packers and worked there till her retirement. Not only did she have a great love for dogs, she also had a huge interest in the races at the Downs, and the horses there. She was so passionate about her pets and the humanity of animals, her request was that her entire estate be given to the Humane Society and the care of horses in Saskatchewan. Anne had her pet dogs until a couple of years before her passing. Anne was predeceased by her grandparents, parents and a nephew Tom, who visited Anne regularly and gave her support if she needed it. He also introduced his daughters, Lara and Alexis to their aunt. Living alone, as she never married, she worked hard and loved her animals. She cremated her pets and wished that their ashes be buried with her. She will be greatly missed by few. Those especially who would miss her are friend Judy Balan, Muriel Koscielny, and good friend and cousin, Pat (Koscielny) Michie, all of Winnipeg. Cremation has taken place and a summer burial at the gravesite of her grandparents will take place in Elphinstone. Date of burial is pending, however notice will be given. Anyone wishing to make donations in memory of Anne is asked to do so to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

  • Anne appeared to be a strong independent woman judging from the comments in this obituary. The few caring people that she had in her life must have provided some comfort to her. The honesty in her notice is appreciated. - Posted by: Lucille Rybuck (none) on: Mar 27, 2016
