Date of Passing: Mar 21, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCORA MAY HUNT (nee STANLEY) February 3, 1916 - March 21, 2016 Mum closed her eyes and passed away peacefully in the night in her own bed. Left to mourn are her nine children: Calvin, Heather, Jim (Lynda), Valerie (Brian), Carol, Vernon, Marcia (Rob), Cynthia (Marc), and Stuart; her grandchildren Kristin, Ashley, Chloe (Michael) and Del (Devin); her great grandchildren Epiphany, Justin, Tyron and Brayden; and great-great-grandchild Indigo. Our brother Vernon took loving care of Mum for the past three years. Cora was born in Portage la Prairie, the second last of ten children, and enjoyed her life on the farm for many years. A little woman, she could be seen herding cattle atop her trusty horse throughout the summer. Sylvester Larned Hunt returned from the Second World War and they married in 1947, starting a family which seemed to increase by one almost every year. Mum was a homemaker but began to work part-time as the children grew. She was a natural in the kitchen and used that talent as a cook in various restaurants until she retired. Cora took up pool at the age of 80 and regularly ran the table. She was pre-deceased by her husband in 1994, all of her brothers and sisters and her in-laws. Cora was the last aunt to her caring nieces and nephews. We celebrated her 100th birthday last month. With the exception of her hearing loss, she was with us in every way, sharing some funny stories with a sparkle in her eye. She laughed often and liked to cut out jokes from the newspaper to see our reaction. How we will miss you. Cora did not want a funeral service and asked us to tip a glass to her when she goes. Small in stature, yet Looms large in the life of her family. Constant is her vigil, So little escapes her notice. And no one is spared her cool appraisal Nor her measured verdict. Our condolences to the Hunt family on the loss of their beloved mother. Personally I never met your mom but I can assure you I've heard many a funny story from my dear friend Vern about her. Whenever Vern told a story about how his Mom beat him at Cribbage he would laugh & shake his head. He'd say "Al, this lady is 70-99 yeas old". Every time he'd tell the story, over the last 30 years Mom would be a little older but still be able to pull off a victory!! Vern loved his Mom & did a great job taking care of her. I know the pain my friend is going thru. God bless you Vernon. - Posted by: Al & Jan Necsefor (Vernon's friend) on: Mar 28, 2016

Many years ago, Cora's oldest daughter was a good friend of mine. I remember meeting at the Hunts before going to Girl Guides; prior to that, we lived across the street from one another in Headingley. Cora, I recall your cheerful personality and how very little seemed to put you out. I am very glad to see you had a long life and were surrounded by your growing family. You will be sincerely missed. - Posted by: Jean MacDonald Copland (neighbour) on: Mar 27, 2016
