ROLAND FRANK MONTROSE
Born: Nov 18, 1958
Date of Passing: Feb 26, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROLAND FRANK MONTROSE November 18, 1958 - February 26, 2016 On February 26, 2016 Rolly bravely lost a ferocious battle against an aggressive cancer at the age of 57, with his wife and sister by his side. He was predeceased by his mother Marta Franck and beloved aunt Margit. He leaves behind his loving wife Kathy and sister Carmen; aunts Hilda (Werner) and Linda; and cousins. Roland was born in Winnipeg, MB. He developed a passion for automobiles and motorcycles. He and his wife Kathy moved to North Vancouver, BC in 1994 and later to Gabriola Island. Here Rolly was happiest working in his shop on cars, bikes, painting, expressing his artistic creativity. Freedom of the ride, road trips, exploring the ocean and Arizona completed him. Rolly loved wildlife especially birds and whales, perhaps because of the freedom and awesome spirit they represent. Not unlike Rolly's own unique spirit, bigger than all of us, that drew so many to him with his thought provoking conversations and his unmatched humour. With warmth and charisma, he left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His love of music was deep in his soul and he shared it gladly. Rolly worked at Namasco in Winnipeg for many years and carried on to a vibrant career in film and television as Transportation Coordinator in Vancouver. A Celebration of Life will be held April 23 at Imperial Vancouver, 319 Main St, 7:00 p.m. As well, a casual fishing Rolly Derby on May long weekend (21-22) on Gabriola Island. "Forever in our hearts"

Years ago I worked together with both Roland and Kathy at Namasco in Winnipeg; Roland for about 10 years and Kathy a bit less. (pretty sure they met at work) I have very fond memories of both Roland and Kathy and I was very sorry when they decided to leave work and move further West. Although we lost contact after they left (except for 1 brief visit when Roland popped by the office to say hello to everyone), I do remember them both to be lovely people. I can still remember Rolands smile, he had a great sense of humour. He was always joking around but took his position as Traffic Supervisor very seriously and did a fantastic job at it. He was respected by the people who worked for him and by all of his co-workers. The Company lost a great employee when he left. (Kathy too) Everyone was sad to them go. He was one of my favourite people to see when I got to work each day, always with a happy greeting and positive attitude! He was a gentle giant with a big & kind heart. I remember him to be the kinda guy other guys wanted to hang out with and be like, and that woman adored! (sorry Kathy!) He was definitely a people person and had the kind of confidence that made you want to be around him. He certainly made an impact on anyone lucky enough to meet him. He was a very special guy taken far too young. He will most certainly be greatly missed by Kathy and his sister and the TONS of friends I'm sure he had in BC...and also by us... a few Provinces over. Rest in peace dear friend. - Posted by: Mary Jean (Putman) Mauthe (past co-worker & friend from Namasco in Winnipeg) on: Apr 21, 2016

Carmen was my best friend in our elementary school years and we spent countless hours at each other's homes and outside in the old Fort Rouge neighbours...Rolly was often part of our play dates. Always smiling, pulling the odd prank and ready to laugh and have a good time. His smile was contagious! We reconnected on fb over the last few years, shares some good and not so good memories! It was obvious he found happiness in his adult life and clearly impacted many people! A life gone way too soon. May you and Carmen cherish the good memories and always remember that smile! - Posted by: Maxine Stewart (nee Schentag) (Family friend ) on: Apr 11, 2016

I have spent so much time lately thinking about and cherishing the time I got to spend with Rolly and Kathy last spring at their home on Gabriola Island. Not knowing what would happen less than a year later has given me even more appreciation for those couple of awesome days in as Rolly described his back yard. What a great memory. Rest peacefully my friend. Your long time bud Kenny - Posted by: Ken Anderson (Longtime friend) on: Apr 11, 2016
