GERALD DOULL MACDONALD
Born: Dec 02, 1930
Date of Passing: Apr 21, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERALD DOULL MACDONALD December 2, 1930 - April 21, 2016 After having enjoyed his first outdoor tennis match of the season, Gerry Macdonald unexpectedly but peacefully passed away at home on April 21, 2016 at the age of 85 years. Remembering him with love are his wife Joan, sons Mark, Craig (Susan) and Scott and daughters Karina (Rob) and Adair. He was predeceased by his much-loved daughter Lisa and brothers Jim and Bob. Also remembering him are his sister Marie, sister-in-law Claire, niece Joan, nephew Bill, son-in-law Guy and daughter-in-law Kathy. Gerry graduated from the University of Manitoba School of Architecture in 1953 and was a founding partner of Ward Macdonald and later MCM (Macdonald Cockburn McFeetors) Architects. In 1979, he was named a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. His drive and passion built his firm into the premier architect for schools in the province. Gerry did business on a handshake, believed in the personal touch and clients became friends. While the many buildings and schools Gerry and his firm designed over the years (including the Winnipeg Centennial Library, Robson Hall Law Library, and the Keystone Centre in Brandon) will remain a lasting part of the Manitoba landscape, his greatest legacy and joy was as Poppa to Drew, Sean, Garrett, Logan, Grant, Megan, Jordain, Kieran, Christopher, Ellie and Kate. Gerry was happiest at home entertaining friends and family. He also appreciated and enjoyed his long association with his friends at the Kildonan Tennis Club. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Immanuel United Church, 755 Golspie St., with his friend Rev. Nancy Sanders presiding. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to Immanuel United Church, 755 Golspie St., Winnipeg, MB R2K 2V4 or the Children's Hospital Research Foundation! CE 501 - 840 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1S1.

Joan and family, we are saddened to hear of Gerry's passing. His passion for tennis is something we recall his discussing during his many visits to Calgary those many years ago. He was a wonderful man and we were glad to have met him. Cherish your memories and keep yourself surrounded by family. Karana and Bruce - Posted by: Karana and Bruce Keegan () on: Apr 26, 2016

Gerry was a good friend to us, and a friend to the Kildonan Tennis Club. Gerry had a passion for tennis and was very good at it. He was a Builder and Contributor to the Kildonan Tennis Club, contributing to our growth and evolution, when we had to sell part of our property and rebuild. Gerry will stay in our hearts and memories, especially when we are at the tennis club. - Posted by: David and Lorie Scrapneck (friends and Tennis Club ) on: Apr 24, 2016

We remember Gerry, not only as a friend, but as a builder and contributor to the Kildonan Tennis Club. He had a passion for playing tennis, and he played well. We all enjoyed our time with him at the Club. He was instrumental in helping the Kildonan Tennis Club grow and evolve, when we needed to rebuild, with his contributions. We will miss you on the courts and everywhere else. - Posted by: David and Lorie Scrapneck (Friend and Tennis Club) on: Apr 24, 2016

My condolences to your family. Losing him so suddenly cannot be easy. I have such fond memories of times together in Winnipeg, Seattle, and Tampa. Touring the library and having Gerry show us some of the design details of your home were special treats. Such a talented man! And his love of family was truly wondrous to behold. You are a beautiful family and I am so glad you have each other to help you through this time. Love to each of you. You are in our hearts and prayers. - Posted by: Skip Wolff (sister-in-law (widow of Bob Macdonald)) on: Apr 24, 2016

Deepest condolences from Australia. Very saddened to hear this news. I knew Gerry through the tennis club for almost 30 years and always deeply respected not just his efforts to save the club, but his enjoyment from being at the club or on the courts. Good shots or bad, his enjoyment was always there...on his sleeve and everywhere else. I honestly don't recall anything else, no matter who he played with. He is missed already. - Posted by: Jason Normandale (KTC ) on: Apr 24, 2016
