EDWARD ALBERT PILAT October 20, 1930 - May 2, 2016 Peacefully, with his loving family by his side, Ed passed away on Monday, May 2, 2016 at the age of 85 years. Left to mourn Ed's memory are his wife Stella, of 58 years of marriage; daughter Brenda (Kimball); son Brian; grandchildren Tyler and Kyla; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son Bradley; brother Mike (Pauline); sister Jean (Alfred) Frykas; and brothers, Carl and Joseph. Ed was born in Copper Cliff, ON and grew up in Mink Creek, MB. He moved to Winnipeg and met and married Stella. Ed worked for Canada Packers and retired after 33 years. He was a member of St. Josaphat Council, Knights of Columbus, St. John Ambulance and St. Basil's Parish. He enjoyed his grandchildren, league bowling and softball, travelling with Stella, country and Ukrainian music, and a good polka! Dad had a passion for the outdoors including gardening and landscaping which was reflected in his yard. He also had a talented hand in carpentry. Dad was a loving, committed family man. The bond of our family was Dad's passion. He was a man greatly respected and loved by all those who met him. Dad never hesitated to lend a helping hand to those who needed it. His generosity, kindness and compassion for life was greatly felt by all. His grandchildren, Tyler and Kyla were Dad's greatest gifts. Even when he was very ill, Tyler and Kyla were able to make him smile effortlessly. Divine Liturgy will be Celebrated on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt Street with Rev. Fr. Isidore Dziadyk, OSBM. We would like to thank all the staff at Holy Family Nursing Home who have become a part of our family. Special love and thanks to Sister Darlene. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Dream Factory, or a charity of your choice. • Thinking of you and your family with heartfelt sympathy. Remembering our youth, raising our families and those passing on. May God Bless your Family. - Posted by: Ann Pistun (Paul) (friend of family from long ago) on: May 07, 2016

  • Sorry about your dad Brenda. I'm assuming, from the obit, that he had Alzheimer's disease. My dad is currently struggling with it and is living in Oakview. It's horrible watching a great man deteriorate and succumb to this terrible disease. I remember your dad as a strong and kind man. Hopefully a treatment or cure will be found so others and their families do not have to suffer through the long and drawn out progression of Alzheimer's. Sincere condolences.
