JOAN McCONNELL (nee PRITCHARD) Joan passed away on Tuesday May 31, 2016 at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 78. Left to grieve their loss and celebrate her memory are her children Kathi (Scott), Sherri (Beth), Kevin (Paul) and Jeff (Margaret); and grandchildren, Signy, Johann (Heather) and Bjorn Kristjanson, Beth and Alex McConnell, and Rhiannon McConnell-Hore. She is also survived by sister-in-law Noreen White and her family;by Ross and Donna Pritchard and their family; and by many cousins and friends. Joan was predeceased by husband of 46 years, Barry McConnell, who died in 2005. Joan grew up on the family farm and attended school in Roland, MB. Strong sense of family, 4-H, CGIT and attending the United Church of Canada were key influences in Joan's life. After time at university and Normal school, Joan was a teacher in Winnipeg before starting a family. Once her children were older, Joan went back to work this time in the United Church first as a staff associate in Christian Education, then as Conference Personnel Minister and later in the General Council offices in Toronto. Since her retirement, Joan shared her considerable energy with her much-loved faith community of Crescent-Fort Rouge United Church, especially her beloved Holy Folders group. Joan faced her unexpected diagnosis of cancer with typical determination and strength. The family thanks the many people who provided support and care over these past few months through cards, letters, emails, food, phone calls, prayers, visits and friendship. We also thank the staff of 3E Riverview Health Centre for their incredible care during these past weeks. A service of celebration for Joan's life will be held at Crescent-Fort Rouge United Church (525 Wardlaw Ave. Winnipeg MB) on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 1:00. I was saddened and surprised to learn of Joan's death. I did not know her well but met her when we served together on the board of 400 Stradbrook. I saw her last summer and we had a nice chat.
