VERNA EMMAREEN SIMPSON (nee BROWN) On Sunday, July 17, 2016, Verna passed away peacefully at Oakview Place, at the age of 88 years. Verna was the loving mother and mother-in-law of Rick (Michelle), Blaine (Shelley) and Gary; cherished sister and sister-in-law of Elva and Larry (deceased), Bea and Hugh (deceased), Frances-Mary and Jim (deceased) and Marena and Gary (deceased); as well as loved aunt and great-aunt. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Donald (career pilot RCAF). On March 15, 1928, Verna was born in Basswood, Manitoba. She met and married her husband Donald a career pilot in 1952. They raised three sons before settling in Kelowna upon Don's retirement. She successfully ran her store The Purple Door, which became Serendipity, in Kelowna, British Columbia, which added to her life adventure. Verna enjoyed her garden and home in the Okanagan for many years. Later in life Verna moved to Winnipeg and many happy times were shared with her sister Marena and family. A Memorial Service will be held for Verna at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at Deer Lodge Centre, Fred Douglas Heritage House and Oakview Place.
