MELISSA ARLENE EGILSON (nee MILLER) July 18, 1960 - August 2, 2016 On August 2, 2016, Melissa peacefully passed away after a two and a half year battle with colon cancer. Melissa was an amazing wife to Lyal, with whom she had five amazing children, Bobby (Jackie), Katie (Mike), Aimee (Scott), Ian and Brielle. She had nine grandchildren, Riley, Kyla, Vincent, Brenna, Dylan, Tristan, Terrence, Julia and Sarah, who were her favourite people. She will be remembered by her three sisters, Roberta, Laura and Michelle and their spouses, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and Elton John. She was predeceased by her dad and mom (Bob and Thelma Miller) and her father-in-law and mother-in-law (Jim and June Egilson), her brother in law Andy Johnson, and sister in laws Christine Egilson and Florine Campbell. Her world was being a mother and a nannie. She was an avid sports fan, loving the Seattle Seahawks and the Winnipeg Jets, but nothing was more exciting than something her kids or grandkids played. You would always see her cheering on the sidelines, with her camera and a Starbucks, always their number one fan! She was also "bench mom" to the other kids on the teams, picking up surrogate kids and grandkids everywhere she went. Always up for a spontaneous road trip, however, lord help you if you tried to drive!! But mainly, she was positive and happy, and she wanted everyone else to be happy! I mean, look at that smile!! Cancer did not beat her! She beat cancer by spending every single second with those she loved. And one last time, from the 12th man, GO SEAHAWKS! A Celebration of Life for Melissa will be held on Saturday, August 13 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Canad Inns Polo Park. Please wear your favourite sports jersey! • Dear Lyal and family. I worked with Melissa (meagan, as I used to call her) at INAC. She was the most positive and lively person I have ever met and her family meant everything to her. She left us way too soon which is so unfair. She was a fighter to the end. May she rest is peace and watch over all her friends and family. - Posted by: Donna Landick (Co-worker (retired)) on: Aug 06, 2016

  • We know Lyal from our Gillam days but met Melissa through Lyal when we ran into each other again when our boys (Ian and William) were going to cadets. We got to know Melissa a little more re-meeting through the years with other acquaintances. In these meetings Melissa was always a shining light and just so easy to talk to. She was without a doubt a dedicated and proud Mom and a great match for Lyal. It was a blessing to know Melissa and we always enjoyed our times when we met up. Our hearts go out to Lyal and all your family in your loss. We hope the wonderful memories you shared will bring you comfort over time. Big hugs for you all. With love... - Posted by: Wendy and Joe Krupnik (Aquaintances) on: Aug 06, 2016
