BERNICE (BEA) HIEBERT 1930 - 2016 On Tuesday, September 27, 2016 Bea passed away peacefully at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home, at the age of 85 years. Left behind to cherish Bea's memory are her daughter, Anne Bakuska; son, Neil Hiebert (Korine); son-in-law, Doug Bakuska; grandchildren, Kyle Bakuska (Anh Duong), Lauren Bakuska, Hunter Hiebert and Madison Hiebert. She also leaves many extended family members including in-laws, nieces and nephews, and close friends who were very much a part of her life. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jake, whom she courageously supported during his battle with cancer until his passing in 2008. Bea was witty, outspoken, vibrant, intelligent and always the life of the party. There was never a dull moment when Bea was around. She grew up in the West End of Winnipeg and maintained a continued fondness for that area of the city. Together she and Jake purchased their first family home, on Home Street, which ended up being the start of what became a collection of many rental homes. They shared a mutual passion for real estate with Bea the realtor and bargain hunter, and Jake the renovator (equipped with a team of cheap family labour). Besides their interests in real estate, they loved to entertain family every summer by their pool, where there were always many steaks and hotdogs on the grill (and beer in the cooler) on a hot sunny day. She delighted in being able to spend time with as much family as possible for a party, an occasion or just because. Bea and Jake took great pride in their children's accomplishments and milestones, and took to their roles as grandparents with great enthusiasm. Later in their lives, they also enjoyed traveling to many great locations. Their favourite trips were to (Beau-Ti-Ful) Hawaii and the Gold Coast, Australia, where they spent time with family members Dave and Doris Friesen, Abe and Jessie Giesbrecht, and close friends Morley and Judy Reider. They also cherished dinner dates with the travel group and Morris and Beryl Feuer. Bea, true to her English upbringing, had a love of Shakespeare, language, crossword clues/puzzles and was always willing to challenge anyone for an impromptu "spelling bee", few of which she lost. A celebration of Bea's life will be held on Monday, October 3, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Breezy Bend Country Club, 7520 Roblin Ave., Winnipeg. The family wishes to thank the Care Team at Donwood Personal Care Home for their care of Mom over the last few years. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9 or a charity of one's choice.
