MARY BORLEY Mary Schellenberg was born at the teacherage at Rosenfeld, Manitoba. She grew up in the various school districts in southern Manitoba where her dad taught. Her childhood was shared with her three siblings and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. After a try at teaching to follow in her father's footsteps, Mary decided that a career in banking was more suited to her, and that career spanned 18 years in Winkler, Altona and Winnipeg. Mary met the love of her life, Ralph, who was a neighbour of her sister and brother-in-law. The next 40 years spent on the farm at Fannystelle with Ralph were the best years of her life! Mary gave up banking and embraced being a farm wife. She enjoyed developing a flower garden, preserving the garden produce for winter and sewing clothes. Mary had the need to get off the farm on a regular basis and enjoyed shopping trips to Winnipeg or towns in southern Manitoba, attending pops concerts and travelogues at the Concert Hall, and going to restaurants for meals. Mary and Ralph were avid travellers, camping in Manitoba and Western Canada, visiting Hawaii numerous times, eastern Canada, Europe, Alaska, islands in the Caribbean, exploring the United States, and spending time being snowbirds in Lake Havasu for many years. Mary passed away peacefully on October 13, 2016. Left to share memories of Mary are her immediate family, Brenda, Greg, Hayley and Mia; her sister Hilda; her brother Larry (Sue) and her nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Golden West Centennial Lodge in Winnipeg, where Mary was lovingly cared for, or Parkinson Canada.
