MARIE FLORENCE WESTLAKE On Thursday, November 24, 2016 Marie died peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital, with family at her side. She was born May 10, 1945 at St. Boniface Hospital. Marie leaves to mourn her beloved husband Gary; her three sons Mike (Tara), Dan, and Pat (Rebecca); two stepchildren Stewart and David; three grandchildren Sarah, Abbey and Michael; two brothers Rene and Norm; two sisters Céline and Jeannine, as well as many nephews, nieces and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Auguste in 1982, her mother Angele in 1989, and her brother Leon in 1966. On October 7, 2016, Marie and Gary celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary. They were married in 1994. In 1967, Marie completed her LPN course. She worked for approximately two years on the Orthopaedic Ward at St. Boniface Hospital and left when Mike was born. Marie then worked at the Winnipeg Clinic for an Orthopaedic Specialist for about two years and left shortly before her second son Dan was born. After her third child Pat was born, she stayed home and babysat other kids to earn some income. Once her children were older she obtained a job at Motor Coach where she was employed for 36 years and retired in 2010. Marie was the matriarch of the family, always looking out for their well being. She always talked about her children and grandchildren with pride. Marie loved attending their sports and activities. Family was very important to her and she kept in touch with everyone through gatherings, visits, emails and phone calls. Forgiveness was very important to her in maintaining family integrity. She loved with all her heart. Church attendance and related activities played a significant role in Marie's life in the last several years. Through the church, she made many friends who were there to support her and vice versa. Marie's faith in her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, was strong and throughout her illness, it never wavered. Although she hoped and prayed for a miracle cure, Marie was ready to meet her Saviour. She accepted her fate and, with the help of other immediate family, she promptly arranged her affairs to relieve that burden from her loved ones. On Friday, December 2, 2016, Marie's Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Joy Lutheran Church, 50 Barnes Street, Winnipeg. We would like to send our deepest appreciation to all the doctors, nurses and staff at the St. Boniface Hospital, especially those on wing 6A. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie's name may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9.
