ALEC KUBICEK Alec Kubicek, peacefully on January 10, 2017, at 95 years of age. He is survived by his son Stan, and his two beloved grandsons, J.J. and Mitch. Alec's long and incredible life began in a small village in The Czech Republic. His upbringing and education took him literally around the world. First, his escape to Western Europe, then his immigration to Australia where he met Marta, his wife, and the true love of his life. From there it was Vancouver, Canada and ultimately Winnipeg, where he became a senior market analyst for the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB). His work and travels for the CWB were not only fascinating by nature, but he was instrumental in shaping many aspects of Canada's international grain trade at the time. All of his colleagues had a deep respect for his knowledge and of course his "style". He spoke seven languages, he played several musical instruments and perhaps, most importantly, he was a devoted husband and father. A rare and true "gentleman". There are not many that we can refer to as being great...but Alec Kubicek WAS a great man! Rest in peace Looch. We had an unbelievable run.

  • Dear Stan and all of the family, I am sending my belated condolences from Pečín. We liked Mr. Aleš very much, we always looked forward to his visits, as well as to his New Year's wishes. He was a person with a great perspective and the same sense of humor... Until today I accidentally came across this link..... That's why we are sending a memory from the Czech Republic. Slavíks from the neighborhood. - Posted by: Věra Slavíková (a neighbor from Pěčín) on: Aug 18, 2023

  • Sincere condolences to the Kubicek family. We will remember Mr. Kubicek as such a dignified, classy and respectable man. We are glad to have an original Alec Kubicek painting in our home. Years ago Cal and Alec traded clay sculpture for painting. Thinking of you all during this difficult time of loss. - Posted by: Danielle and Cal Wookey (Friend) on: Jan 16, 2017

  • I had the good fortune to work with Alex early in my career when we were both at the Canadian Wheat Board. We enjoyed each other's company and often played chess together at lunch. I was also a part of a Wheat Board mission to Central America and the Caribbean with Alex and Carl Gusberti. Alex's ability with Spanish was invaluable to the Mission as was his knowledge of the grain trade. We have not seen each other for many years but the memories of a great friend linger. All best wishes to the family. - Posted by: Glen Torgerson (Former colleague ) on: Jan 14, 2017
