STEPHEN NICHOLAS SKAKUN December 19, 1930 - February 3, 2017 After living a long and full life, Steve passed away on February 3, 2017. His memory will be cherished by his son Garry; his daughter Cathie; daughter-in-law Suzette; son-in-law Chris; brother Walter; his four grandchildren, Ryan, Nicole, Kyle and Christine and first great-grandchild Jackson. Steve was predeceased by his wife Elise (nee Andrushko); his parents, John and Anne; his older brother Russel and younger sisters, Matilda and Elsie. Dad was born in Keld, Manitoba and grew up on a farm in Gilbert Plains. He worked various jobs farming, building and mining up North until he moved to Winnipeg at the age of 23 and met his future wife Elsie. They were married in January 1956 and built their home together in Westwood, where Steve resided until June 2012. Steve had many interests. He owned and flew his own plane. While up North as a young man, he studied woodworking books and came back to Winnipeg and challenged the Carpentry Exam, an accomplishment he was very proud of. Steve built, renovated and rented out many homes in the St. James area and was always looking for the next project. He made sure his family was always well taken care of and built several of the family member's homes and furniture and loved spending time with them. The family wishes to thank the staff at Extendicare Oakview Place, Steve's home for the last four years and to his caregiver Susan Steeves, who brought much joy, love and happiness into Steve's life over the last three years. A celebration of Steve's life will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Bord-Aire Community Club, 471 Hampton Street, followed by a private interment at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Chapel Lawn, 204-885-9715
