Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryREGINA GEIST 1925 -2017 The most beautiful and the rarest thing in the world is a complete human life, unified by intelligent purpose and accomplishment, blessed with many attributes and employed in sharing old world traditions, with a glowing spirit that never dimmed and was always growing. Such a rarely beautiful life was that of Regina Geist. It is with heart-breaking sadness the family announces the passing of Regina Geist on Thursday, February 16, 2017. Regina passed away at Victoria General Hospital at the age of 91, after a brief struggle with heart and lung diseases. Born September 5, 1925 in Valchid, Romania, a home to almost nine centuries of existence of a Saxon (German) community, she grew up and lived her childhood experiencing a rich heritage with old world traditions. Regina's fondest childhood memories were of summers working and playing in her family's vineyards. She enjoyed the fresh smells of the ripe vines and enjoyed working with her sister Anna picking and sampling. During wartime Regina was taken from her family, and through her amazing resiliency endured a horrendous journey through the many atrocities of war. At the end of the war she ended up in Germany where she met her soul mate Michael. Regina ventured to Canada in 1950 to be with her aunt and Michael followed in 1951. They were wed in 1952 and together they began their journey of building a new, fulfilling life in a new country. Regina enjoyed raising her three children, she ensured that they experienced her values and traditions with summer trips to Europe visiting relatives and adventuring the beautiful countryside that was once home to her. Regina was happiest in the company of family and friends, cooking a big meal and baking wonderful tortes and dainties. When her husband Michael passed away Regina discovered a new life at Lindenwood Terrace where she made many wonderful friends. Regina was predeceased by her parents, George and Regina and her sister Anna and brother Hans. She is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Karen (Chris); sons, Michael (Amanda) of Vancouver, and Ronald (Blesie) of Vancouver; grandpets, Lily Rosebud, Indigo and Callebaut; the Lederer family; cousins, nieces and nephews and the children in her life who knew her as Oma. Regina's family would like to extend a special thank to the Victoria General Hospital staff and doctors for their compassionate care. As well, Regina's family would like to thank the staff at Lindenwood Terrace for providing a nurturing and caring environment. Funeral service to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB. Regina was my neighbour for over 27 years and we kept in contact until she moved to Lindenwood Terrace. She was a very kind and amiable person; who always spoke in a very soft and gracious manner. Our children have much respect for both Oma and Opah (Mike). I remembered when we first moved into her neighborhood, Regina was the first person to approach my mother to welcome her. Mike would make my Mom wooden stools for her to sit on when attending to the garden. We never stopped speaking about Oma and Opah, and not to mention Milo their pet dog, when our family reminisces about life. We regretted not attending the funeral as were were unaware of her her passing. May God grant her Paradise. - Posted by: Faizul Rahim (Doc) (Neighbour) on: Dec 25, 2021
