WILLIAM (WASYL) KOSTELNYK With the warmth and love of family by his side, William passed away peacefully on Monday, March 20, 2017. While we will all miss his kind, generous and fun-loving character, it is a comforting thought that he will be reunited with his brother Sam and his parents Ilya and Eva who predeceased him, along with his loving companion Maria Kurec. William is survived by his children Anna, Tony and Zina (Real); grandchildren Jesse (Melissa), Remy, Colin, Nick and Mia, and great-grandson Connor. He is also survived by his brother Myron (Gen), sister Anne (Ted) Kisha, and sister-in-law Gloria, as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. William was born September 18, 1924 in Binczarowa, Poland. At the age of nine he immigrated to Canada with his mother to join his father who had settled in St. Martin, Manitoba. His early boyhood years were spent attending Van Deusen School and working on the family farm. William was very proud to have been enlisted in the Canadian Army where he experienced some of his fondest memories as a young man. During his life working tirelessly on the farm, he also for several years was a commercial fisherman. In his spare time he displayed his musical talent as an accordion and violin player and led the St. Martin Orchestra playing throughout the Interlake region. In addition to farming and fishing William was quite the handyman as a carpenter, plumber and electrician which led him to his own home renovation business and most recently his hobby of woodworking, which his projects can be found throughout Manitoba and beyond. A Service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., West St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or to The Palliative Care Endowment Fund through St. Boniface Hospital Foundation. The family would like to thank Dr. Darrel Drachenberg for his many years of care as well as the numerous doctors and nurses at CancerCare Manitoba for his most recent treatments and care. Lastly, we would like to thank the entire Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassion and care for William and his family.

  • It’s been two years uncle and I still miss you so very much. I will never forget you and always cherish our time together. Love always, Little Willie. - Posted by: Will Kostelnyk (Nephew ) on: Mar 20, 2019

  • "Uncle" Willy was always just down the road when growing up, in the little house with the wood cooking stove. Even when I hadn't talked to him in a very long time, he would still know it was me..."is that Jennifer?" I heard as recently as December, always with a big smile in his voice. Will miss you... - Posted by: Jennifer Hyra (Kostelnyk) (Cousin) on: Mar 24, 2017

  • So sorry for the loss of a good man. Prayers to all. - Posted by: Kurt Rohl () on: Mar 24, 2017

  • Uncle Will was a great man and words cannot express how much I will miss him. I will remember and cherish all the great times I had with him on the farm growing up, playing cribbage, learning new card games, going to the Casino and picking up materials to work in his wood shop on projects like folding picnic tables and Capone cabinets with him. I will never forget all that he has taught me and all that he did for my father and our family over the many years of his life. I will cherish my memories of him forever. My life is better because he was a part of it. His influence and strong character has made me a better person. My sincerest and deepest condolences to his immediate family and all that knew him and loved him. Safe journey Uncle. Love Little Willie. - Posted by: Will Kostelnyk (Nephew) on: Mar 24, 2017
