HELEN PALKA (nee LETWIN) It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Helen Palka on April 24, 2017 at the age of 75 after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Helen was born in Thalberg, Manitoba on May 25, 1941. She leaves to mourn, her husband of 55 years Jerry, daughters Charmaine, Tara (Mike), grandsons Chase and Jesse, great-grandson Brady, sister Winnie, brother Clarence (Marcella), in-laws Gordie (Margie), Ron (Doris), Betty and Audrey. Also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Helen was predeceased by her parents Anne and John, and siblings June, Marie, Richard, Paul, Lawrence, David, Christine and Michael. The family would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Helen's grandson Chase for his love and dedication to his Baba, and the staff at CancerCare and Grace Hospital for their care and compassion. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017 at ANAF 283, 3584 Portage Avenue from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Helen was loved dearly and will forever be missed. I was saddened to hear of Helen's passing and wish to offer my sympathy to Jerry, Charmaine, Tara and all of her family. We worked together at The Hudson's Bay Northern Stores. I always admired her classy control and engaging personality as we tried to handle the challenges of the day. She always seemed to be on top of things in an ever changing environment. I was looking at obits. for another friend who passed, when I saw Helen,s name. Gerry, Charmaine, Tara, and rest of family, I,m so sorry. Helen was the most kindest, honest, and one of the best friends I've ever had. Words are failing me right now, to say my regrets for not keeping in touch more often. Heart is aching for you all. Mom, I miss you terribly. I can't believe I won't see your beautiful face again except in pictures and my memories. Memories...so many memories...we did everything together and I am so grateful for this. You are now in the most beautiful place with loved ones who you haven't seen in so long and your suffering has stopped so how can I be anything but happy for you. You deserve eternal peaceful rest.
