Born: Sep 29, 1921
Date of Passing: Apr 28, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMILDRED ELEANOR EWART (nee CHISHOLM) September 29, 1921 - April 28, 2017 Peacefully, surrounded by her daughters, in her 96th year Millie passed away. She was predeceased by her husband Sam in 2000, and her brother William "Buddy" Chisholm in 2013. Millie is survived by her daughters Elaynna Gilmore (Tom), Judi Hoplock (Jack) and Gina Ewart (Kris Johnson). She leaves behind her five grandchildren Paul, Jason, Colin, Brooke and Konrad, her eight great-grandchildren Matthew, Sarah, Jonathan, Vaughan, Myles, Rowan, Lakyn and Lennox, and step-grandchildren Jill and Becky, Krisandra and Korrena. Mom was born and raised in Winnipeg. In her early years she was a legal stenographer; with the outbreak of Second World War she volunteered in numerous positions supporting the returning injured vets. Mom and Dad were married in 1946 and soon after we three girls were born, Mom retired from her professional career to a new career of looking after us. She continued to be involved as a volunteer with Silver Heights United Church, Silver Heights Community Club, Girls Guides and C.G.I.T. The tight knit community of Silver Heights became her home where she resided from 1950 to 2015, on Keating Avenue. At the age of 93 Mom moved to Sturgeon Creek I Retirement Residence. Mom was a wonderful, talented, dynamic lady who was the heart of our family. As we three girls grew older, Mom got the travel bug taking many extended trips to England, Scotland, Europe, Spain, and Australia. In her spare time she worked on her many crafts. She excelled at anything she put her hands to, her work became art. Her passions include, sewing, quilting, knitting, embroidery, but rug hooking became her favourite. Many of our family and friends have been graced with her many projects. A celebration of Millie's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations would be appreciated to Children's Hospital Research Foundation, or just give a few moments of your time to read a book to a child, one of her favourite things to do with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Good night Mom, we love you and will miss you. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 204-885-9715
