MURIEL CHERRY It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear Auntie Muriel, on April 26, 2017. Muriel was predeceased by her parents, one sister, one brother, two nephews and is survived by her nieces and nephews. Auntie Muriel was a kindergarten teacher in Neepawa, MB for over 30 years and very well-known in her community. As a primary educator she was the perfect person to have as a role model for a child's formative years. She was an upbeat person that would greet everyone she met with a big smile and a how are you today? Muriel always tried to see the best in people and when told someone's latest tale of woe, she would often shake her head, roll her eyes and say, "I just don't know how it is all going to end." Our Auntie was a peaceful soul that wholly embraced her rural upbringing. There wasn't a constellation, a flower or bird that ever missed her attention. When Muriel retired she took a leap of faith and moved to the city so she could be closer to her family. Although she was now an urban dweller, she never forgot her rural roots and as a result many trips were made with the family back to where her story all began. She enjoyed sharing the stories of her childhood with all of us and we enjoyed seeing the places that made her who she was and the towns that she once had called her home. For the past 17 years Muriel's patio was the meeting place for her family, friends and neighbours. Even the dogs in the neighbourhood made a special stop at Auntie's patio for some attention and a special treat. All were welcome there for a chat, a laugh or a cookie. The family would like to thank the 4th floor staff at the Victoria Hospital for their care and concern during our Auntie's brief stay. Muriel was a true animal lover and over the years she shared her home with numerous pets and we ask that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in her memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service in her honour will take place Friday, May 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota St., in Winnipeg. Muriel was a kind, gentle and truly beautiful person who touched many lives and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Do not weep for I am gone, My memory shall linger on Do not cry, nor shed a tear Smile and remember, that I was here.

  • My Aunty Muriel was one of the greatest souls around. She was there to all that came to her in a time of dark and need. A soul full of life's lessons, love, understanding, trials, tribulations and all around life! This past year has been heart wrenching and the tears are plenty and often. Common rituals like ringing her several times a week can no longer be!. The greatest person, sweetheart and soul lost forever, but not forgotten. I miss you so much and I cry often as you see I just wish you were still here with us. I know your no longer in pain and with dad, grandma, grandpa, Danny, Rod, Baba and all else we have lost along the way. My heart is lost, broken and waiting for the day when I can see you again. Biggest of hugs and love, Always Jonny Faykes - Posted by: Jonny faykes (Nephew ) on: Mar 07, 2018

  • Muriel was a dear lady who stole our admiration and adoration. She was Rambo, the family dog's best friend and he looked forward to his daily visit for his treats that Muriel stocked for him. If she was to busy telling a story he would remind her he was still the by gently pulling her arm down with his paw. She is dearly missed by my teenage daughter who walked past her home every day from school where Muriel was either sitting outside or peeking out the window to make sure she was on her way home safely. Kaylen still looks too see if she will catch her peeking. It is a true loss to not have the days events to share with this very special lady. - Posted by: Kim (Friend) on: May 21, 2017

  • Muriel was my Auntie, my Mom's only sister and a second Mother to me. When I was growing up she was the one that taught me to drive (at 13), we watched Sunday night Monty Python together and laughed ourselves silly, she let me bake and cook in her kitchen and never complained about the mess I made. She was the go between buffer when my Mom and I were at odds, she was the cheerleader from the sidelines for all classes, projects, etc that I took on and was always willing to help if she could. She was a part of every milestone in my life and one of the best role models anyone could ever have. Even her condo had a connection to me as I had seen it first while I was waiting to see a house in the same area. In the end I bought the house she bought the condo (4 doors away) and we also became neighbours. I keep expecting to see her sitting on her lawn chair out on her patio from my parking spot when I leave the house but her patio is so quiet it is deafening. I will miss her gentle nature, her big smile and most of all her funny stories. - Posted by: Cherylee McDonald (niece) on: May 20, 2017
