RICHARD (DICK) LINES 1931 - 2017 Richard John Lines, aged 86 years, passed away on April 7, 2017 at the Riverview Health Centre. Dick is survived by his wife Sue; his sons, Stephen (Heather), John (Sue); his daughter Kelly (William) and his six grandchildren. Don't think of him as gone away His journey's just begun, Life holds so many facets This earth is only one. Just think of him as resting From the sorrows and the tears, In a place of warmth and comfort Where there are no days and years. Think how he must be wishing That we could know today How nothing but our sadness Can really pass away. And think of him as living In the hearts of those he touched... For nothing loved is ever lost And he was loved so much. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Permack and to all the staff at Riverview Health Centre. Memorial contributions can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and to Riverview Health Centre.

We were very lucky for many years to have “Firebrand” as one of our two scout leaders. He always seemed to end everything he said with a laugh, and you couldn’t help but join in. He always made it fun. Camping was the best part of scouts, with our tinfoil dinners and even one winter camp with no tent. I had to dig out my “1964 St. Vital District Camp Log Book”, doubtless prepared, designed and written in large part by him in his efficient, draftsman-like way, as one of the primary organizers of the event. From his “Camp Comments”: “It hardly seemed true that on the evening of July 11th, 53 scouts and four leaders (a fifth arrived later) were camped at Alloway.”; “Most scouts stayed in line most of the time and the Big Chief only had to blast-off a couple of times – and he can too, can’t he!”; “Only real casualty during the week was the leaders’ tent demolished by a felled tree, and the biggest surprise was being thrown into the lake during the final camp fire.”; and “I personally had a real great time, even when removing slivers at 5:45 a.m., and hope everyone else did too.”; signed “Firebrand” He was instrumental in leading us to be queen scouts and he definitely had a big impact on the lives of boys like myself. Our family has many happy memories of Scouting activities with Dick . His sense of humor, love of nature, creativity and love of life brightened many rainy camping situations and sunny days as well. Sincere condolences to his wife Sue, children and grandchildren. - Posted by: Barbara Kelly (former Scouting colleague ) on: May 21, 2017

I enjoyed many years working with Dick and having him prepare drainage plans and documents for Water Resource purposes. His wit and keen sense of humor matched with the sparkle in his eyes is what I will always remember. A main topic under discussion at our frequent encounters was the pride he displayed for his sons and daughter. Kindest regards to his spouse Sue. Rest in peace my friend. - Posted by: Roger Leuzinger (Co-worker for more than 25 years) on: May 20, 2017
