Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEILEEN ANNETTE ZIKMAN (nee PEARCE) July 30, 1935 - May 15, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our most precious mother on Monday, May 15, 2017, at the age of 81. Eileen was born in Winnipeg and was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. In 1956, she graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Children's Hospital and travelled to Norway House Manitoba to work at the Norway House Hospital. There she met an impressionable Central Northern Airways pilot, Mervin Zikman, and they were married in 1957. They settled first in Norway House, then in Lac du Bonnet, The Pas, and Thompson, finally moving back to Winnipeg in 1978. In 1995, she was predeceased by her dear husband Merve and both parents, Allan and Eveline Pearce, and later by her sister and brother-in-law Vivian and Bernie Turenne. Eileen will live on in the hearts of her daughters, Karen Little (Brian) of Portage la Prairie and Carla Mazur (Ned) of Calgary, sons, Dale (Cindy) and Brad (Chelsie) of Winnipeg, grandchildren, Melanie (Brett), Landon (Tanya), Kelsey (Shayne), Dean, Holly (David), Garret, Evan, Brittany (Steven), and Derek, and great-grand twins Alexis and Emilia. She is also survived by brothers, Russell (Elaine) and Norman. Special acknowledgment must be given for the friendship and support that our mother always received from cousins, Alma Pippy, Jim Ingebrigtsen, Brenda Marion, longtime friends, Marlene and Brian Walker, and to that exceptional group made up of her nursing classmate-sisters, Colleen, Joan, Tedda, Mona, Lorraine, Pat, Marlene, Bernice, Helena, Mary, and Anne. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 600 Cambridge Street, in Winnipeg, on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eileen's memory to the Children's Hospital Foundation, CE501-840 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1S1 or St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 600 Cambridge St., Winnipeg, MB R3M 3G9. The family would like to thank all the nurses and doctors at the Victoria Hospital 2nd floor Unit and the St. Boniface Hospital ICMS and 6th floor Transitional Care Unit for their exceptional care and compassion. I have been dreading this my entire life. I've spent the last 5 days trying to wrap my head around this. And while someday I will accept it as fact, my heart will forever be a little bit broken. She and I have shared a special bond since the beginning. Every year on my birthday, she would tell me the story of the day I was born & how the nurse thought she was going to steal me from the bassinet - now just a memory. I will treasure all my memories of her - from her excitingly announcing "it's Melanie" whenever I called or visited; to her shuffling around the cabin in her slippers on Saturday mornings, crossword puzzle in hand, wondering where she put her coffee (almost always in the microwave); to her daily routines of rubbing Ponds cream on her face & sprinkling baby powder on her feet. I will miss Gram the most at the cabin where her spirit & energy is engraved in every nook & cranny. I have such amazing memories of the weeks I used to spend with Gram at the cabin each summer (yes, even the summer she made me lug huge rocks all the way from the lake so she could build the stepping path from the front of the cabin to the back). I was so looking forward to the chance to spend time with her this summer with the girls - I'm so sorry we won't be able to. I am so thankful for the time I had with her & for everything she has given me. I am so thankful that she got to meet her great-grand babies & knew that we named Alexis after her - a very small token of love to show how very much she meant to me. I will miss her always & forever. Rest well, Gram..until we meet again ❤️ - Posted by: Melanie McGimpsey (Granddaughter ) on: May 20, 2017

Just wanted to offer condolences to you kids on the passing of your mom. I used to babysit you sometimes while you lived in The Pas. Long time ago but I remember your parents well. They were super people! - Posted by: Brenda Hedberg (Old neighbour ) on: May 20, 2017
