Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH (BETTY) HUMMEL March 6, 1933 - May 16, 2017 It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Betty Hummel (nee Moffat) on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. Left to treasure her memory are her husband of 55 years, Rudolf "Rudy" Hummel; daughter Elizabeth Hummel (Patrick O'Connell) - granddaughter Samantha; son John "Joe" (Sharon Rose Power) - grandson James, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents John and Elizabeth Moffat, and infant brother John Jr. Betty grew up in Winnipeg, where she attended St. Mary's Academy and St. Boniface Hospital School of Nursing. Graduating in 1956, nursing was Betty's passion. For over 25 years Betty worked at St. Boniface Hospital as a Registered Nurse. After moving to Saskatoon in the early 1980s Betty practiced nursing at St. Paul's Hospital for two years before opting for early retirement. When Betty wasn't nursing, she was actively involved in community service in both Winnipeg and Saskatoon. Betty was a life-time member of the Catholic Women's League, enjoying over 65 years of committee work, service and tea. When Elizabeth's Brownie Pack needed a leader, Betty became "Brown Owl". In Winnipeg, Betty was actively involved in St. Mary's Academy Alumni, St. Boniface Hospital Alumni, Sisters of Service Residence, as well as teaching First Aid and Home Care, and volunteering for Blood drives for the Canadian Red Cross. Betty loved her travels with Rudy, reading, gardening, recycling (before it was cool), her beloved dogs, BINGO, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Vigil for Betty will be at 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 22, 2017 and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 23 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 20th Street and Avenue O. Rite of Committal will take place at a later date at St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church, Lockport, Manitoba. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Saskatchewan Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured, 5 - 501 45th St. West, Saskatoon, SK S7L 5Z9, a charity near and dear to Betty's heart.
