MARY BARKMAN May 31, 1943 - May 17, 2017 On Wednesday, May 17, 2017, Mary Barkman (nee Reimer), peacefully passed away at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach, after a brave battle with cancer. Mary was born May 31, 1943 in Steinbach, Manitoba. The fifth oldest child of Peter and Agnes Reimer, Mary was the first of her family to be born in a hospital. Growing up in the Blumenort, Manitoba area, Mary lived a rural life including helping on the farm and in the house, and walking to school. In March of 1967, Mary was married to Bruce Barkman and they lived in Whitemouth, Manitoba. Glenn was born first to this new couple, followed by Marcie (Cameron) Unruh, Warren, Sheldon (Justina), Trevor (Val), and Bevan (Mandy). In 1974, Mary and Bruce moved to a farm northeast of Beausejour. In 2000, after her marriage broke down, she moved alone back to Steinbach and finally to Blumenort where many past relationships were renewed and new friendships started. Mary was predeceased by both her parents; brothers: John, Vern, Reuben, Harry, and Andy; and sister Eva (Friesen). The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre and Steinbach CancerCare who were involved in Mom's care. We also appreciate all the visits, thoughts and prayers from friends and family during Mom's stay(s) in the hospital. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, with interment at Blumenort EMC cemetery.
