LLOYD DITCHFIELD Lloyd Ditchfield passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, with his family by his side, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Lloyd rejoined the love of his life Maureen, who he lost in 2002. He will missed by his children Kelly (Gerry), Gregg (Joyce), and Glenn (Dawn); grandchildren Miguel (Lauren), Erik, Natia, Trevor, Cory, Ryan, Joel, and Brant, and great-grandchildren, Charlie, River, and Nova. He also leaves behind his loving sisters, brothers, and families: Norma, Merle, Lorraine, Irene, Jim, and Gary. He was predeceased by Billy and Gordon. Lloyd was raised in the Silver Bay area. It was a time and place he spoke of with fond memories, where his first job was as a young teen with a commercial fishing family. He moved to the city in the 1950s and worked for Brett Young Seeds, and at 17 he got a job with Manitoba Hydro. On April 4, 1959 Dad married our mom Maureen and they raised three children at their home on Harrowby. After working for 17 years with Hydro he decided to start a family business, L&M Ditchfield Landscaping. Many laughs and memories were shared sitting in ''the shack'' on Sturgeon Road. Maureen and Lloyd continued with the family business until Maureen took ill. Lloyd retired and became a loving caregiver to his wife. Dad was a devoted father who dearly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dad you will be missed. Cremation has taken place, as per Dad's request there will be no service. The family would like to thank all of the caregivers who took care of Dad during this difficult time. INTEGRITY Cremation & Funeral Planning 204-295-5408

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Apologies for the late submission. To this day I'll always remember Lloyd as the hard-working good-natured man he was. When I was 13 and 14 he hired me as his right-hand worker on occasion. It was hard to match his energy. He was a tough guy. I used to help him retail Christmas trees and would marvel at his perseverance in setting up the enterprise. Lloyd had a great sense of humour and I'd delight in his sharing a more adult version of it, treating me as an equal even when I was a young punk. I loved my time with your Dad. He was a great guy. I'll always remember him dearly. - Posted by: REand Steeves (Neighbour and friend) on: Oct 21, 2017

  • Uncle Lloyd or as my mom and her family called her brother "Buck", was a wonderful man. I remember him while growing up in Winnipeg. He was one of the most generous, kind, happy and gentle man that I have known. He worked very hard as did aunty Maureen with their landscaping business. I can remember going there often with my dad to buy things for the yard. He was always laughing, and always working long hard hours. I am blessed to have known him and happy that he is now with aunty Maureen and my dear granny. Love Cheryl - Posted by: Cheryl McCartney (neice) on: Aug 06, 2017

  • I have a very early fond memory of Uncle Lloyd. Greg and I had gone for a walk in our bare feet and by the time we got home, we were up to our shins in black road tar, used for sealing concrete roads. We must have found a puddle of it. Uncle Lloyd and my dad had to carefully wash our feet ... I think with gasoline! But his patience and kindness and care that day have always been how I remember him over the 50+ years I knew him. I look forward to our reunion on the other side. See you there, Uncle! - Posted by: Brad Jersak (Nephew) on: May 23, 2017
