DIANA DARLENE THOMPSON It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, nana, sister and aunt, Diana Thompson on Saturday, June 24, 2017. Diana left this world suddenly at St. Boniface Hospital, with her family close by and able to speak with her before she was taken at the age of 73. Diana leaves to cherish so many wonderful memories, her son Edward, daughter-in-law Brenda, grandson Matthew, granddaughter Lauren, sisters Doreen, Mabel (Dan) and Marlene (Wilfred), brother-in-law Carl, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Larry, mother Irene, father Jacob, brother Elcon, and sister-in-law Margaret. Diana met her husband while they both worked for The Bank of Montreal. She moved with him, and their son, throughout the Prairie Provinces, whenever he got transferred. After her husband's retirement, they settled in Winnipeg to be close to their son and watch their grandchildren grow up. She loved gardening, growing vegetables and planting flowers to make her yard a vision to behold. She loved reading and walking her dog, Luna, but her greatest joy and happiest times were when she was with her family. As much as she loved those times, her family cherished them just as much. Each of us has our own special memories of her - from Brenda feeling as though she hit the jackpot when it came to mothers-in-law, to Lauren spending summer nights chatting outside with Nana in her gazebo. For Matthew, she was also a best friend in the more recent years. She's irreplaceable, and the void left is huge. Ed had a mother who believed in him when he didn't believe in himself. She taught him not only how to love himself but also how to love others. Thank you for everything Mom, you were my best friend, and strongest advocate. Sleep well, you have earned it. While her leaving was sudden and unexpected, we are so grateful that she was able to tell us how much she loved us, and true to the spirit of the woman we knew, made sure to tell us not to worry. We were each able to make sure she knew we loved her, and that we would be here for each other. We love you Nana, you'll never be forgotten. The family would like to thank the paramedics and first responders who came to our aid swiftly, as well as the medical staff who did all they could for her at St. Boniface Hospital and made sure she was comfortable during her final moments. Cremation and service have been held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to St. Boniface Research Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or CancerCare Manitoba.
