ROBERT STEWART LAWSON INGLIS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Stewart Lawson Inglis on June 23, 2017. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Barbara, parents, William and Mary Inglis and his sister Margaret. Lawson leaves to mourn him four children, Joanne (Henry), Stewart (Juliette), Cameron (Sally) and Duncan (Debbie). He will also be greatly missed by his 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and all the other people he touched in his life. Lawson was born April 22, 1929 in Winnipeg at the start of the Great Depression. These hard times formed his strong character and desire to succeed. He was an athlete and bagpiper in his youth and graduated from the University of Manitoba where he met Barbara. Lawson worked in the textile industry continuing a tradition passed from his grandfather and father. He went out on his own as a salesman and his outgoing personality resulted in many of his customers becoming personal friends. He built a cottage at Lake of the Woods where the family enjoyed many happy summers. Lawson was the patriarch of a large family, known as Grand-père and Zeda to his grandchildren. He was an avid collector of art, jewellery and Staffordshire pottery. Lawson was always strong both physically and mentally. His daily activity included exercises and cycling through much of his life. He had the determination to research what he wanted and the drive to achieve his goals. Lawson and Barbara were happily married and their union was a role model for their children. Their love, respect and caring for each other created a stable supportive home for the family to grow and prosper. We would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital and Poseidon Long Term Care Home for their kind and compassionate care. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fort Whyte Alive.

  • Dear Joanne, Stewart, Cameron and Duncan, I too have wonderful memories of your father, from my childhood in Winnipeg particularly. I remember him as being loud, larger than life and having the biggest laugh I had ever heard. This was tempered by the sweet elegance of your mother and explains perhaps why I remember them so much better than the rest of you. I suppose this was all from the perspective of a child as, on the few occasions I saw them on their trips east, this image changed somewhat as their closeness and respect for each other dominated as has already been described, Uncle Lawson and Aunt Barbara were one entity. I saw Lawson again a few years ago when my daughter Sarah was in Winnipeg for a few months. He was so welcoming and warm as he updated me with his stories of his family, children, grandchildren and of course Barbara. He was so proud of all of you. Please accept my sincere condolences on his passing but how fitting that he left so close to Barbara's passing, together as always. Sincerely Margaret's daughter, Deborah - Posted by: Deborah Harding (niece) on: Jul 14, 2017

  • Our prayers are with you all, Lawson, Barbara and your entire family. We enjoyed a close friendship with Lawson and Barbara for many, many years, including playing bridge and many lovely dinners out. Lawson and Barbara were both wonderful people and we will miss them. - Posted by: Lorane & Curtis Steiman (Friends) on: Jul 12, 2017

  • I have such fond memories of both your mom and dad. I was so fortunate to meet them through dancing...... your mom never missed a chance to share with me and others about her beautiful family.... and your dad would always be right there with your mom.... his eyes would light up just like your mom. I also knew your mom in her capacity of auditing our books, or as we now call it, reviewing our financial statement. She did it for many years and we so appreciated her willingness to take it on year after year. Sincere condolences on your loss of your beautiful parents.... a true love story! - Posted by: Vee Adolf (friend) on: Jul 05, 2017

  • Dear Joanne, Stewart, Cameron and Duncan. I am so sorry to hear about Lawson's passing. You all know how very special he and Barbara were to me and my family. I could fill pages with wonderful memories of growing up in Fort Garry and Kendall Inlet with the likes of Lawson and his enthusiastic love of life! From water skiing, sailing, berry picking, pump fixing, duck chasing and card playing, Lawson embraced the joys of family and friends with great patience and humour. We are all very lucky to have been part of such a life. - Posted by: Andrea Pollock (Friend) on: Jul 04, 2017
