PAUL KRILYK June 26, 1933 - June 28, 2017 It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather, Paul, on June 28, at the age of 84 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Florence; daughter Deborah (Frank), son Darrell and grandson Matthew. Paul is also survived by extended family; sisters-in-law Shirley (John) and Sonia Maxine (Ed), brother-in-law Ron, numerous nieces and nephews as well as honorary family member Scott. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Katherine, sisters Mary and Anne, brother Billy, parents-in-law Steve and Mary, sister-in law Deanna and nieces Dana and Shelly. Paul was born in Pansy, Manitoba and grew up in a rural family. He attended high school in Steinbach. As a young adult, Paul strove to gain a higher education. He moved to Winnipeg to pursue his future where he met Florence Sandra Maksymetz in 1953. Paul and Florence married in 1954. Early married life was not easy as the young couple operated a restaurant in the Woseley district of Winnipeg. Paul eventually acquired a job at Pioneer Electric, driving a cab on weekends to earn extra money. He also attended night school to study drafting. He was hired by Manitoba Hydro in 1962 and continued to take evening courses, studying mechanical engineering at Red River College to further his career. He worked as a mechanical engineering technologist at Hydro until his retirement in 1992. Paul loved and cherished his family. As the children grew, the family took many trips to Baba and Gigi's (Florence) farm in Venlaw, Manitoba. There were trips to South Dakota, Alaska, and the Maritimes all in Paul's customized Ford Econoline camper van. There were also many canoe trips throughout the years. Paul was a passionate canoeist and perfected techniques for efficient wilderness travel and survival. He instilled a love of nature in his children and the family enjoyed many fond memories of their travels. During the spring, summer and fall, Paul could be found picking wild berries and mushrooms. Hockey coach, Sunday School Superintendent and member of the Barracuda Swim Club were also some of his roles. Paul was a master carpenter who spent countless hours designing and building many quality pieces of cabinetry, furniture, kitchen accessories and such. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed it immensely after retirement. He was patient, and often quiet, but really enjoyed laughing, even to the point of tears. Paul enjoyed Saturday afternoons watching the Bugs Bunny and Roadrunner hour with the kids. Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday nights was a father son activity. Paul loved classical music and along with Florence, held season tickets to Manitoba Opera for years. The couple often hosted get togethers with friends and family in their East Kildonan home. They continued the tradition in their retirement years in their home in South St. Vital. A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 8, at St. Bartholomew Anglican Church, 881 Autumnwood Dr., Winnipeg, MB. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Dear Florence, Firstly please accept my sincere condolences in your great loss. I now live in Comox, on Vancouver Island having only moved here in the last three years. My very good friend, Don Walters sent me the notice of your loss just a few days ago.... Memories: I was telling my good friend Don Walters that if it had not been for Paul, I would not have met you Florence... Jim McCae and his wife... And of course Don Walters who has been a very close friend since that wilderness canoe trip to Bain Lake in Nopiming Provincial Park. I will never forget Pauls thoughtful generosity and trust in lending me your 19 foot Winona Jensen solo canoe. It gave me complete independence and was a DREAM to paddle. I could even keep up with everyone. Florence among the many things I remember from that trip.... Paul traversed the whole canoe route we were going on...just the day before we left on the trip! What an amazing thoughtful generous man. Florence...you even made us key lime pie in the reflector oven at the fire one night. Awesome! Now I wished I had the recipe to re-live those moments. I know that I did not keep in touch with you both, but you are definitely in my thoughts once again. • Florence, As you may remember, I met Paul years ago through your dear friendship with my parents. I was very saddened to hear of his passing. Although I only knew Paul in his retirment years, I felt he was a gentle soul, sweet, kind and unassuming. He was always a great addition to our "family" golf tournaments and anyone who was put on "Paul's team" had a great time and scored well to boot! He was hard working and a man of many talents. I still have one of the lovely trivets he made for my Christmas craft show many years ago. His soft spoken manner and accepting attitude made him special. He was liked and appreciated by so many, I know that he will be sorely missed. So, Florence and family, from both Don and myself, please accept our sincerest condolences at this sad time. - Posted by: Terry Pangman (Friend) on: Jul 04, 2017
