MINNIE MACMILLAN (VICTORUK)
Born: Mar 06, 1926
Date of Passing: Jul 11, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMINNIE MACMILLAN (VICTORUK) With much sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Minnie MacMillan on July 11, 2017, at the age of 91, at River East Personal Care Home. Minnie was born on March 6, 1926 to Matrona and Petr Victoruk. She has gone to join her husband Arnold, who left us suddenly in 1984. She is survived by her brother Bill Victoruk (Mary) and her sister Anne Brow. She was predeceased by her brother Peter Victoruk and brother-in-law Don Brow. She is survived by her children, Guy (Wilma) MacMillan, Conrad (Lesley) MacMillan and Rona (Wayne) McLennan, as well as five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Minnie was raised in the Point Douglas area of Winnipeg. After completing high school, her dream was to become a doctor, but finances would not allow that, so she went to Portage la Prairie and trained to become a psychiatric nurse. She pursued that career until the mid 1940s when she met Arnold and returned to Winnipeg to be with him and raise a family. They settled on McDermot Avenue in the west end where she quickly made friends with Kay Drozda down the street. The Drozda clan became very close to our family and Auntie Kay and Uncle Joe were cherished members until they passed away. In the mid 1950s, Mom started working in the produce department at the Bay downtown, where she remained until her retirement in 1993. She cherished deeply the many lifelong friends she made there. She spoke of Eddie and Ziggie, the butchers, who played countless practical jokes on her, as well as her many good friends including Jean, Gladys, Gerda, and the other "crazy" ladies who made a yearly pilgrimage to Las Vegas. Mom had an ability to make friends easily. Shortly after retirement, she started going to a new Chinese restaurant that opened in her neighbourhood - Shaing Bo. In no time at all they were calling her "grandma" and sending a car to pick her up for family dinner at the restaurant. She thought of Raymond, Diane and Alice as much a part of our family as they did her. We would also like to acknowledge Louise Ablack, who played an important role in Mom's life at a time when she needed her most. The family would like to thank the caring staff at River East Personal Care Home, for their exemplary care and support, particularly Sherrie who always made time for her. Cremation has taken place. A family interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on July 28, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. A gathering of family and friends will take place in the common room at Concordia Village, 1105 Molson Street on July 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Salvation Army. Our deepest condolences to the MacMillan family. As neighbors on McDermott avenue for decades the Drozda family cherished her warm friendship. Minnie was our mother, Kay's best friend and our son Christopher's godmother. Minnie brought joy to our mother's heart on a daily basis. If Kay was not at home we knew where to find her. Over the years our families became very close too and shared many wonderful ventures and memories. As kids, Minnie brought "fun" into our lives every day. We love you always and will miss you. - Posted by: Richard Drozda (on behalf of the Drozda Family) (Long time friends) on: Jul 25, 2017

Our deepest sympathies to all the MacMillan clan. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. I will remember her for her smile which I see living on in Guy. Rest in peace Mrs. Mac. - Posted by: Richard,Russell,&Stephen Hill (Brother-in-law & nephews to Conrad) on: Jul 16, 2017

My deepest condolences to all Minnie's family. Minnie was a wonderful woman with a warm heart and a great sense of humor-and she even got my jokes! ;-) While we only met in 2004, it feels like I knew her for much longer. She soon won a special place in my heart, and will stay there. Good bye my dear friend. I love you, and will miss you till we meet again. Louise - Posted by: Louise Ablack (Friend) on: Jul 16, 2017

I first met Min at her home on McDermott. I was instantly connected to her warmth and sense of humour. She was at our home with Don and Anne Brow one day when my sister's brother-in-law (Bob Paley and his kids ) walked into our yard. They both looked at each other and asked "what are you doing here?" Both were shocked to see how close we were all connected. Rest in peace Minnie. You lived a long and wonderful life. - Posted by: Dianne Kennedy (related through marriage) on: Jul 15, 2017
