GORDON FRANKLIN MCINTOSH
Born: Aug 19, 1927
Date of Passing: Jul 20, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON FRANKLIN MCINTOSH Gordon was born into a prairie landscape August 19, 1927 - a flatlander and a man of the grasslands, and passed away on July 20, 2017 at Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home. He was predeceased by his parents, Neil Sherman McIntosh and Margaret Ilene McIntosh (née McCrady) and by his loving wife of 61 years, Marjorie Isabel (née West). He grew up as a third generation rail roader, lived in section houses and stations in Manitoba and Saskatchewan; was employed by the CPR for 40 years and lived with an enduring passion for rail lore. His early career as a Morse code telegrapher led to employment as a railway station agent. He subsequently transferred to the Freight Rates and Tariff Bureau in Winnipeg, where he worked until retirement. Dad was often found at his work bench using his limitless imagination to construct lawn furniture, toys and elaborate birdhouses. He had a great love for gardening and enjoyed sharing his bountiful harvest with friends and family. He loved music and played both saxophone and clarinet in many prairie bands, "playing by ear". In the winter months he was a loyal "Maple Leafs" hockey fan. His later years saw him as a devoted caregiver during our mother's lengthy illness. In recent years our dear father began to falter, and he moved to Tuxedo Villa where he received kind care from the attentive and patient staff whom he considered his second family. He endured his decline with grace, courage, and his care with gratitude, while never losing his sense of humour and love of a good joke. He is survived by his loving children: Sandra, Ian and Barbara (Alan), his grandchildren: Cameron (Kate) and Aynsley (Mike), grandchildren: Mitchell, Jillian, Jonathan and Emily, as well as his great-grandchildren: Jessie, Nicole, Malcolm and Alec. Also surviving him is his sister Joyce. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made in his memory to "Save the Canadian Pacific Station Committee" of Portage la Prairie heritage Inc., 251-3 Street NE, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1L1, 204-428-3101. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 204-885-9715

Fell in love with Barb in 1975-76. Traveled from Fargo to Winnipeg every two weeks with border free Canadian Club for Gord. Loved her wonderful family. Will always be in love with BJM ... always my "coutie". - Posted by: Steven Magnus Foss (Friend of Family ) on: Aug 12, 2021

Albeit very late in extending condolences, I wanted to tell you how special Gord was to me and my son, Chase, while living in Hallmark. He was my "Dad' living next door, sharing and caring. His love for your Mother was so enduring. I truly loved Gord and did visit him in his 'new home' but lost touch once I moved out of the city. I am so sorry for your loss and I was truly blessed to have known him. RIP Gord - Posted by: Deb Sveinson (Neighbour) on: May 31, 2018

It was a pleasure to play with Gordon when he played with the Senior Melody Group. He was a real asset to the orchestra, and had a wicked sense of humour. - Posted by: Mac McCorquodale (Orchestra mate) on: Jul 25, 2017
