Date of Passing: Jul 23, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID ELMER REID November 27, 1953 - July 23, 2017 Dave passed away at home in Winnipeg on July 23, 2017 at the age of 63. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife and friend of 35 years, Marie-France, his brother Malcolm (Doreen) of Minaki, his sister Susan (Dale) of Red Deer, his sister-in-law Wendy of Minaki, his uncle John (Diane) of Vernon, plus his mother-in-law Monique Cantin and his sister-in-law Josée Roy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and his very best friends, Tikoh and Mishka. Dave was predeceased by his parents, Marjorie and Mervyn and his brother Mike. Dave served over 27 years in the Canadian Forces as a Military Policeman. When he retired as Sergeant in 2008, he had completed many postings in Canada and overseas (including many UN missions and an Embassy posting in Beirut where he met his current wife Marie-France). He also provided VIP security for the Prime Minister and the Governor General. His long years of loyal and dedicated service and many medals attest to his contribution to both the Canadian Forces and his country. Dave enjoyed travelling, hunting, fishing, boating and spending time at the cottage in Minaki. He also had a passion for sports and luxury cars. He was a loving and caring person who will be sorely missed. In compliance with Dave's wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private family interment will be held at the Orchid Columbarium in Kenora. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice. The family thanks the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their love and care, and other health professionals who provided him care over the years. Marie-France, Please accept my sincere condolences on Dave's passing. To me he will always be the big, hearty MP who would come down the hall (after chatting with you, of course!) and tease the lawyers. He will be missed by many. - Posted by: Michele Geiger-Wolf, Cdr (Co-worker) on: Aug 14, 2017

As a young officer posted to Ottawa in the 1980s, I was sent on OJT with the Special Investigations Unit. My companion for much of that time was Sgt Reid. He took special care to explain his role, the importance of the background investigations in support of the security clearance process and all the processes and procedures. A very knowledgeable and likable man who was always professional in his approach.. I remember hi fondly. A loyal MP who will be sorely missed by the MP Branch. I met Dave when we did our 5s together. We were roomies. I'd get his mail and he, mine. Our last names weren't the only thing similar. Our SIN, family names and love of life were too. The last time I spoke with Dave was while training for Haiti. He talked a lot about retiring at Maniwaki Lodge. He loved it there. He was one of the good guys and will be missed. Condolences to family and friends. - Posted by: Pat Reid (Friends ) on: Jul 29, 2017
