Marguerite was born in Carman, Manitoba on October 12, 1925, to Jennie and Robert Stocks, and was the youngest of eight children. She grew up in the Myrtle/Roland district and became a teacher at age seventeen. She taught at schools in Arnaud, Wingham, Portage la Prairie, Roland and the Churchill military base. Marguerite and Alan met in Churchill and they married in 1962. They moved to Shilo and lived there for seventeen years. Alan and Marguerite spent winters in Tempe, AZ, and summers at Pelican Lake, Manitoba. She and Alan travelled to a variety of places in Europe, the Far East, Australia, New Zealand and the Caribbean. In later years, they lived in Winnipeg. They made many friends and were renowned for their hospitality to family and friends. Marguerite was an expert conversationalist who made everyone to whom she spoke feel important. She was a kind and gentle soul. Though they had no children of their own, Alan and Marguerite showered love and attention on every niece and nephew and their families. The staff at Seven Oaks Hospital where Marguerite spent the last two months was consistently kind and caring. Marguerite appreciated their attention and so did her family. Thank you. Al and Marguerite were friends of my parents in Shilo. I always liked being around Marguerite, she was such an elegant, intelligent lady with a great sense of humour. For my graduation from Grade 12, the McKnights gave me some lovely crystal glasses and a silver dish. I still treasure them. - Posted by: Rita O'Rourke (Baltesson) (Friend) on: Aug 01, 2017
