JOHANNE DESMARAIS (nee DORGE) January 2, 1956 - August 7, 2017 After a lengthy and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis, while surrounded by family, Johanne won her fight and peacefully joined her parents, Ted and Ida, and younger brother Gerry in Heaven. Johanne will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters: Chantal (Carlos Portillo) and Sylvie (Chris Hébert), their father Gerry, her grandchildren: Kaylen, Max, Yesenia, Gabriel and a precious grandchild on the way; her siblings: Joseph (Emilie), Paulette (Jean Gaudry), Aline (Albert Boulet), Leanne, Jean-Guy (Wanda Brown), Michel (Bruce Jardine), Lyse (Marleen Nakonagas) and Jacquie (Gilles Paquette), along with loving extended family and friends. Johanne lived her life with passion and touched the lives of so many during her 61 years with us. She taught us the importance of living every moment to its fullest, laughing every day and being open and accepting of everyone. Her family would like to thank the staff at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface for all the love they showed Johanne over the past 11 years. You treated her like family until she took her last breath and we will hold you in our hearts forever. Funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, August 11 at Paroisse Précieux-Sang, 200 Kenny St. Everyone is invited to the parish hall immediately afterwards to celebrate Johanne's humour, kindness, and resiliency. A private interment will follow. Johanne never allowed the MS to hold her back, she strongly advocated for independence and accessibility. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations can be made to Society for Manitobans with Disabilities. Repose-toi chère maman, tu es libre à danser, parler et manger tout ce que tu désires. "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living, my mommy you'll be".

  • My condolences to Johanne's family. She was a delightful person and working at Actionmarguerite she lit up the staff. I have fond memories of watching fireworks outside her window with Johanne and other staff, talking about favorite things and spending time. She had a great sense of humor and on one of our first meetings I accidentally spilled a bit of water on her and she looked at me with an expression that made her point. I will miss her and as well too the other staff. - Posted by: Diana Dawson (health care aide) on: Aug 15, 2017

  • There are no words... only good memories..... the farm, huge gardens, sleep overs, family get-togethers. Than we grew older and each lived our lives. By the grace of God, we had a chance to reconnect, if only for a short year. I visited you, and you taught me lessons in patience, courage, kindness, forgiveness, mercy, and especially love. Your beautiful eyes spoke louder than your voice. We will meet again sweet cousin, that I have no doubt. Thank you Lord for placing Johanne in my life. To Johanne's girls, sisters, brothers, and extended family...condolences and prayers coming your way.... - Posted by: Monique (cousin) on: Aug 09, 2017
