HELMUT H. E. THOBABEN May 24, 1946 - August 11, 2017 On Friday, August 11, 2017 Helmut, very peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by his family. Helmut will be remembered by his wife Cheryl (nee Taylor); children Tricia (Dan) Kramarik, Krista (Rodney) Thiessen; brother Guenther (Diane) and his three precious grandchildren, Mackenzie, Logan and Kyle. After the Second World War, Helmut was born in Ihlienworth, Germany. Lacking work opportunities, his parents immigrated to Winnipeg in 1953. He was extremely thankful and proud to be a Canadian Citizen. Helmut worked for Moore Business Forms for 38 years. Starting as a Press Helper in 1965, he worked his way up through Pressman, Supervisor and Managerial positions, and lastly promoted to Plant Manager. He also had the opportunity to start a small service plant in Red Deer, AB 1980-87, after which he returned to Winnipeg. No formal Funeral Service will be held, but a celebration of life will take place for his friends, family and colleagues. Helmut had kidney failure later in his life. He was forever thankful to all the wonderful people involved in the Nephrology Departments at our hospitals and the home PD program. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Helmut to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, 452 Dovercourt Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3Y 1G4. Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Our condolences to you, Cheryl, and your family. We were thinking of Helmut yesterday, remembering his contribution of bruschetta to the Evesham Key block parties. He got us starting on making it ourselves, so as we make up a new batch one of us will mention that he made the best bruschetta ever. - Posted by: Shelley and Ian (former neighbours) on: Aug 28, 2017
