JOSEPH FREED Sadly we announce the passing of Joseph on August 29, 2017, at the age of 102, at his home with Ruth, his wife of 73 years, by his side. His family, children Gayle (Gerald) and Stephen (Candice), grandchildren, Noah Stern (Ronit), Marissa Shinewald (Michael), Jonathon and Jacob, his great-grandchildren, Tyler, Isaiah and Ely, and newest addition, Ruby, were never far away from his side or his thoughts. He was predeceased by parents, David and Tillie Freed, sister Mildred Schulman, brothers Ben and Max, and nephew Mark Schulman. Pallbearers were Noah, Tyler and Isaiah Stern, Gary Sures, Bob Silver and Michael Shinewald. Joseph was a gentle, soft spoken man, respected in the manufacturing industry for his honesty and fairness with his employees at Freed and Freed, and his colleagues in the industry. He was a loving guide to his family in all the generations and his greatest pleasure was to have us all around him at his home in Winnipeg and his vacation home in Palm Springs, California, where we gathered in different combinations for spring break over the years. He continued to go to the office until well into his 90s. He and Ruth were very social and had many dear friends with whom they dined, danced and played tennis, golf, and bridge, often at Glendale Golf Club, of which he was a founding member. We will all miss him and carry him with us in our hearts. Thank you to Rabbi Green, who officiated at the service and to Perry Schulman and Thelma Sures who ushered us so capably through prayers throughout the Shiva.
