• Her friends and I in Toronto have only just now learned of Liis’ death. I have only sketchy details of her history and hope others, as they learn of her passing, can and will fill in the details. Originally from Estonia, Liis’ family emigrated to Canada after WWII with her poor father being pushed into many national armies during the conflict. The family consisted of Liis, a sister, her mother and father. I believe they settled in the Ottawa area. The details up to my meeting her in 1975 are sketchy. I met her through our dear mutual friends Katy Reed and Carol and Bill Martin with whom she was living with, in their house. We all became part of a very nice group of friends including Katy’s then husband Malcolm, fashion writer David Livingstone and a few others. All if us Liis‘ family, so to speak. We would all get together over the years for memorable parties, outings, Carol and Bill’s New Year’s wedding and general fun. The Insurance company Liis worked for moved it’s headquarters to Winnipeg and in order to maintain her pension, Liis moved with them buying a house in St. Boniface. I shall leave the rest for other friends to fill in. Liis was unique. She spoke and wrote the most perfect English of all of us. She was a good friend, an adventurous cook (Christmas cookies with peppercorns!) and gave really great gifts. There is a big chunk missing from our with Liis gone and she is greatly missed.
